Was it a bad idea to raise my join fee now?

Our sites have been overdue for a price hike, so I finally committed to it with my new affiliate clean tour:

(that is totally homemade by me so if you feel like critiquing it, keep that in mind)

Any thoughts on whether NOW (with recession fears / economic instability) is a bad time to do it? Should I have held off? Hmmmm . . .

Anyone thinking of lowering the cost of memberships or offering bargains to address people financial fears?

I am really having a hard time believing that two dollars is going to turn some horny guy away from porn. That's like keeping a slice of chocolate cake away from my dad... it just doesn't happen.

tony: I just "unveiled" it yesterday so I don't have any data yet, and wouldn't really know if it was a problem with the tour design or the price hike since I changed both at the same time.

Sly: it was actually a $5 increase, but yeah -- I tend to think it's not going to matter. Just curious what other people's thoughts are, though.

Remember Trixie, you are either selling your price or the content. From what I have seen of your content over the years, its the CONTENT that you are selling, Delia and the "red" stuff, well - people should PAY a little more to see that, its unique.

We recently made our sites all-access (except the red site, which we can't include because ccbill won't process it) so they're getting all of our sites instead of just one.

I do think mike is right that the cheaper prices lower surfers perception of quality.

if any surfer is on the edge of deciding to join or not, i definitely think the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs would push many toward the no-sale option. The way its currently worded, you're practically talking many out of joining.

Yeah, I think a lot of my text is questionable/debatable whether my approach is shooting myself in the foot.

The reason I do it, though, is to establish trust with surfers. Honesty is part of my brand. Also, I think there's some reverse psychology there; no one wants someone else telling him that he can't afford something he wants. If a chick tells a guy, "honey, I don't think you can afford that" you KNOW he's going to be like, "oh yeah?? YOU HAVE ONLY MADE ME WANT IT MORE!" Deal done.

I love your sites, always have. The new design is great and my opinion is that you could probably raise the price even more in the future. Compared to what is out there your content is super unique, hardcore, and classy.

I've always loved your site and your blog is my favorite blog to read online. I did love the old design, but this one is great, too.

$5 isn't a huge price hike for what you give them and for fans it's well worth the price.

Thanks! I have a ton of hairy armpit & bush pics for promo, by the way -- I will try to make alternate galleries & zips next time around that emphasize the hair (I always mean to, but you know how it goes).

After losing my processing with Verotel for BloodyTrixie when they changed their terms, I've been reluctant to go through that ordeal again, and also am concerned about the way Hughes billing processes payments for digital content so that they say "tangible goods" on statements; that's kind of funky. I have the application printed out, and just keep sitting on it in part because I need to focus more on our other sites. I know I'm just throwing money away, though.

I agree with the others that your page that explains why you don't have trials is convincing surfers not to pay for your site. You want surfers to buy on impulse, and to not think about their money. If they start to think "Can I afford this" you are going to lose them.

However, I think that one line from that page is fantastic: "While $24.95 might not be worth it to some people, I think it's a low price for someone to pay to gain such intimate access to me and my private life."

I think that's all you need to say on that issue.

I think that elaborating beyond that is unnecessary to prove your trustworthiness.

Trixie, I just poked around your site a little further and realized who you were I remember Trixie's Houseboy from WAY WAY back. Your stable of sites is looking fantastic. I agree with the others that your price hike is probably a really good idea and I bet it will go over well with surfers.

Everyone else I've heard talk about pricing on websites has had positive experiences when they raise their prices.

It would be interesting to hear where the line really lays on this type of thing... hehehe, I wonder how high you can raise a price before you do see the conversions fall off.
