    How I spent 200hrs and $4000 to setup my 1st paysite

    Howdy,

    I am a total newbie here, but have been lurking for a few months. Over the last 4 weeks I decided to take the plunge and get my first paysite up and running. I spent most of the time and money (120 hours and $3300) on models and shooting. I should have probably included the cost of another $1200 for the new strobe kit I had to buy after mine blew up rapidly shooting an intense masturbation scene.

    I started the site mostly to figure out how hard it would be to get the whole thing up and running. Outside of figuring out which webmaster tools actually worked (errrrgh!), I was amazed how easy it was. That said - while the site is getting drips of trafffic. The design sucks, I have not done much retouching (so most of the the images look like shit), and I have not had any conversions yet (although I have had a few aborted signups).

    I made an in depth list of all the steps I took (both biz and tech) and all the tools I used to get it up and running - and some of the ones I have yet to do (affiliates, gallery accounts, etc). If anyone is interested let me know and I can post the whole thing in mind numbing detail.

    Stats:
    Day1: no traffic
    Day 2: 800 uniques (but about half were from TGP verification)
    Day 3: 1200 uniques (about 400 from TGP scripts)
    Day 4: WTF 200 uniques (Saturday)
    Day 5: (yesterday) about 600 uniques
    so far no conversions (I gotta to get to that affiliate program setup).

    My status here doesn't let me post the URL yet, but hit me up and I will send it.

    Also - oddly - I am getting about 100 visits a day from GFY. But I can't find the GFY post - I hope no one posted shit about me already.

          Congrats on going for it. Many people wouldn`t go for a paysite as their first project in adult because it can be a difficult one but good luck and I hope you pull it off.

          Post the URL (without the www or http) so to hopefully get some genuine feedback.

              good luck with your paysite. Hard work and dedication are key factors. Without them you wouldn't get anywhere for sure. Just remember - when you're ready to give up, you're closer to making it than you think

                      I am shooting all amateur girls. Mostly Asian girls that I am picking up on the street in NYC. My hit ratio for approach to conversion of models is about 50:1 and gaining as I refine my technique and better pick out the good targets...if only I knew how to convert the traffic hitting my site.

                          Maybe the feel to the site is a little too basic - its like a site that would have been common 5 years or more ago. The price is good in some ways but also a little too cheap for the consumer to feel confident about whats inside maybe.

                          Its as if nothing really is going to catch the consumers eyes and want them to hand their card over.

                                  Yep. The site design is definitely the weakest link. I also need to amp up the previews. There are a hundred sets in the members section - but it looks like a stale old dinosaur.

                                  I am probably inviting a ton of spam, but can anyone recommend a good indie designer to do a makeover? I am not looking for a package, but someone who can take a look at the site and create some pro looking banners and templates.

                                  But what about the traffic. Should I be happy with getting 500 to 1000 uniques in my first week from about 300 tgp submissions on 2 galleries?

                                                      I agree with the comment above on price. Do not sell your content for cheap. You have exclusive unseen amateur content, thus increase your price to the industry standard of $25.95 or $29.95.

                                                          I shot most of it, but a friend of mine is a Japanese fetish photographer and she shot a few of the sets. I am thinking about building her up as a personality for the site. I think that customers would respond well thinking about some chick shooting the images. Thoughts?

                                                          On the price issue: Does anyone else have an opinion. Not that I don;t believe Dirty, but I need more input. I just dont have that much content yet (about 20 girls -100 sets - avg 40-50 imgs /set). Will I do better upping the price, or will subscribers get inside and (for the price) see how little there is and then bail out?

                                                                                  You are never going to get quality traffic from TGPs. You have chosen quantity of quality and as a result you will need way way way more traffic to get even 1 sale as compared to someone who spent their time courting search engine (which is higher quality). The quality guys may get significantly less traffic, but they make way more sales from it.

                                                                                  The good news is, you can use the traffic you have now to help you improve the design of your website. Spend your time really messing around with navigation making sure that all pages lead to "home" and that each page loads fast and is visually appealing.

                                                                                  Since you seem to specialize in content creation, maybe you can look into hiring a company who specializes in website design to help you in that area. It might give you the boost you need and you can take the work they have done and even improve upon that in your own time.

                                                                                      Thanks for the advice. makes sense. I am shopping around for someone to do redesign (designers: keep spamming me with you portfolios). and I will focus more on SEO and content creation...that reminds me, I gotta get outta here to go meet a brand new model for her first ever photo shoot.

                                                                                                              As for your site. I think the others have nailed it. It's a poor site design. Have a freelancer "jazz" it up a little and you will start to see some sign ups. Also, submit some galleries to freeones. I think you have a good product and there is a market out there for it for sure.
