In case you're wondering how 18 million pounds of meat can be contaminated by a single sick cow... listen to this.

    http://www.npr.org/ramfiles/me/20010312.me.06.rmm

    http://www.npr.org/ramfiles/atc/20010713.atc.13.rmm

They aren't loading but keep trying.

Eric Schlosser is a journalist, he wrote a book called "Fast Food Nation" his book is as frightening as it is eye opening.

He basically talks about that they grind cows up until they are a goo. A meat goo. They are then just all mixed to gether. So one sick cow, can literally destroy millions of pounds of meat. And that when they are ground up that much, they lose all sense of flavor.

To disguise the taste, they add flavoring to the goo, to make it taste like... HAMBURGERS!!!

What we think hamburgers taste like, is nothing at all what they really taste like.

So the moral of the story? Don't eat frozen hamburger like patties. Stick to the good stuff, some nice ribeye steaks instead. You get what you pay for and if your hamburger cost you 49 cents a pound and came in a 10# box of premade patties, you can bet it aint all meat!

Of course, this could all be prevented if you cook the meat to 160 degrees :-D

Damn, no more raw hamburger for you!

You obviously didn't listen to the real media interviews.

Just a tip... My grandfather was a butcher and always warned of pre-made ground beef. As a butcher, they're told to use the old beef, ground it up, and in some cases add coloring. The same is true for the "teriyaki kababob special".

So unless you know your butcher by name, don't buy pre-made ground beef- ever. Instead, buy a cut of chuck steak and ask them to grind it fresh. Besides, that ground beef from the factory butcher easily contains 100 cows in one hamburger patty..

                  mmmmmmmmmm

thats not really true on the ground beef. never buy the 'hamburger' beef thats like 25% fat, they usually use older beef and scraps and thats why it sells so cheap. also with the kabobs its true sometimes. when you go somewhere to buy meat, NEVER buy anything that they marinated. what they do 90% of the time is when the stuff gets older and discolored, they marinate it and you cant tell its discolored. i could go on and on about the shady things that go on in a meat department, theres just too many things to list.

yeah you can do that, but you will lose at leat 25% of the meat if they have a normal commercial grinder from the stuff that doesnt go through. so you will pay a lot more. i would recommend just buying sirloin and check the coloring on it. i've never heard of them adding coloring. you can tell the color changes on the dates if you compare different dated meats.

That is a great book. Really an eye opener.

But I still need Whoppers and Fries.

And now Burger King has out a Homestyle Whopper with bacon and a tasty bun. God I wish they were open 24 hours.
