Scorpion vs. Beetle

it's a chinese water scorpion (mesobuthus martensii) not sure on the species of stag beetle, but m. martensii has a low to middle range toxicity to it's venom, not enough to cause much dammage to anything large. it could probably take down a beetle, but even with a successful sting, it would take some time for the venom to take over. i highly doubt a shot from the tail of a scorpion this size would even carry enough force to penetrate through the elytra of the beetle though. stag beetle species can carry several times their own body weight, and their jaws are extremely powerful. they can do quite a bit of damage, and you certainly wouldn't want to be bit by one yourself. my guess is death was brought on by crushing of scorpion's thorax, which isn't overly strong, and could easily be caved in by the force of the beetle's jaws...Last edited by Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life; 01-20-2008, 04:53 PM.Comment

ya the hornet is the undisputed champ of jbf, but if they got a centipede in there that wasn't a totally pussy the centipede would win every time. they just use these little pussyshit centipedes. they need to get a mau chau or viet subspinipes in there and it'd raise some hell...That videos from http://www.japanesebugfights.com/ . yes. here's my vietnamese giant s. subspinipes, and this is me being a dumbshit. if he bites me i'll be left with a swollen useless arm for at least a couple weeks. the only species with a recorded human death attributed to it. bug geeks regard me as both a god and a total idiot for these pics...

nah, some species can deliver a strike from their rear legs that'll hurt, but the venom glands are up front. they sting with with the maxillipeds (the large orangish fangs you see up under it's head) they connect up to venom glands inside the body. they'll latch into you with those pincers and can either give you a dry hit, which still hurts like hell, or if they decide to they squeeze muscles inside the body which force the venom through hollow tubes in the maxillipeds to inject the venom. that there is one of the most venomous species of centipedes around, also one of the largest. he's just over 11", and last i checked on some hobbyist forums, i have one of the largest kept specimens in the hobby. he's the pride of my collection and has taken down full grown mice, frogs, and giant cockroaches. they're vicious feeders. i was warned over and over again that handling him was aBAD idea, but i've felt like tempting fate a few times...Last edited by Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life; 01-20-2008, 06:15 PM.Comment

the beatles made good music for their time, but was it really that spectacular? not to me, and i've listened to my share over here. and lets consider the word "here" to be short for "here I am, rock you like a hurricane". you shall kneel and do as the Scorpions have before you...

Talk to me when the Scorpions are being played 40 years later and influencing half the number of musicians that the Beatles did.Comment

music is ALL a personal preference, however, the Beatles are one of the most influential bands of all time! Kiss, Aerosmith, and many more will ALL tell you that the Beatles inspired them to do what they did! Again, if you don't like their music that's fine, it is your opinion, but you CAN'T say the band is overrated!Comment

You have balls the size of bowling balls my friend!!! I watch discovery channel shows all the time and I have seen specials on that bug and it is a BADASS!! You would have had a lot worse than a swollen arm! You are a god!!!!

Eh, never saw that one, but it doesn't surprise me. Centipedes are killing machines.
ya, a couple weeks of swollen arm is kind of a best case scenario for a hot bite. with one this big i would more than likely be hospitalized.
i don't pick him up any more...
