Use DVD-R, more compatable than the newer format. Use 1X-2X, not 4X.
For media I buy only Ritek 2X. I think for the Inkjet printable ones its about $250 per 200 dvds or something like that - I buy from some web outfit -

It also depends what hardware you write them on. You can master on anything, but when they are duplicated not all drives are created equally. I have about a dozen pioneer A104 2X burners, which rock.
