To each their own. I'm far from an Apple fan but have never once been disappointed with apple phones. Everything about the 5 is an improvement over the 4/4s and I like having new phones every year. There's not a single piece of equipment that I use more. Not sure pricing where you're located but it's $1000.00 here for the 64gb iphone5. Was able to sell my used 32gb 4s easily to a store for $450.00 and happy with the deal all the way around.
Almost picked up the S3 but the dramatic increase in size was too big of a leap.
