The problem is they all say this. The other problem is affiliate tracking is never that great and you'll do much better than your average affiliate will for different reasons. When sponsors don't convert better than 1:2000 or somewhere thereabouts it soon gets to the point where the affiliate is just providing free branding. It barely covers the costs on some video sites. Just sharing my perspective here and answering your question. There is a good chance your site does better if you are keeping the content under lock and key.
