why would you need cpanel if you have 1 site? to create a mailbox every now and then? Just open a ticket and your host can take care of it.
Running cpanel with all the features it comes with will cost you performance
In general somebody managing the box who know what he/she is doing and can optimize and tune your setup will gain more than what you might think.
Think of it this way; if you have a car but a person who doesn't know to change gears you will never get the full performance out of the car
