Not entirely true. I have bought hundreds of storage lockers and while most of them are typical items you would expect to find, you never know what people will put in storage.

1. You would be shocked how many people will pay $150 per month or more to store trash. I mean literally trash. If they threw out half the garbage that was in the locker they could get one half as big or it is filled with shitty, cheap particle board furniture and you could replace everything in the locker for $300.

2. Some people will put all kinds of stuff in these things and leave them. I have found tons of sports memorabilia, jewelry, coins and currency, a variety of collectibles, a car, designer clothes and shoes, antiques and all kinds of valuable stuff. I once bought a unit that had nothing but car windshields and door glass in it.

I often found myself wondering why the people didn't come and get at least those things if they knew they were going to default on the rent, but they don't. You would be shocked at how many boxes full of family photos I have seen left in units. You would think stuff like that would be something people would treasure and want. Along with all this stuff I have seen a ton of restraining orders, arrest papers and other things so I think a lot of these are products of divorce or domestic issues or people getting old/sick/injured etc.
