Well as someone that runs and has run forums I hate it! You have to setup special registration templates to counter it (which works fairly well) or have your forum linked to a spam database to counter this.
I'm not sure if it's good for self-populating message boards of your own.
It's only good for plugging well established forums in off hours when the mods aren't around. I recall being on 4chan when that place got out of control (holy shit out of control) and they finally had to take measures and ultimately instill a captcha on every post.
I don't mean to sound insulting but you're better off asking these questions with a fake nick.Comment

(1) Neither are "spam" softwares. "Spam" is defined as "unwanted commerical email" (UCE) and neither Xrumer nor Scrapebox sends so much as a single email to anyone.
(2) There are uses for the softwares well outside of blog posting which can help you earn a ton.
(3) Hrefer; a part of Xrumer, is an invaluable tool.
(4) Scrapebox is a wonderful program which if properly used can add to your income in ways that you cannot imagine.
There are idiots out there who just blast away pissing off everyone in sight but I am not one of them
I the next six months, I will pay CASH for my new house, complete with a ten car garage and workshop as the result of the PROPER use of both programs.

I will not pay with a cheque.

Still, do you lay in bed at night stressing at whether or not you're going to be removed from Google the next day? That's the thing about "natural" SEO (which is arguably no SEO besides good practices Google has spoken about) you can rest easy knowing that your site is still going to be indexed in the morning.Comment

I guess that's fine if your running a network of sites you don't give a fuck about. But if it's a singular project that you want to have some longevity, then yeah, it's a stupid idea. I mean it's even questionable just how much emphasis Google puts on back links, if they do at all. I had one site that I made sure the code was clean and fast, used the basic good practices, and within 8-12 months it was at the top for all my desired keywords. Not a single back link was created.
