Just got back from walking the dogs and was giving this subject some thought. Anyone that does any decent amount of travel will be able to grasp it.
Since Battus wants to be the squeaky wheel in this conversation, we will take Amsterdam as an example. I have seen McDoalds's, KFC, Burger King and other crap food there. While I have never walked in one I have walked inside your Starbucks so I think it is safe to say that they offer multiple sizes at your McD's there as well. The main difference is that most people in AMS walk or ride bicycles everywhere as opposed to everyone driving here.
If you travel to a city like NYC or San Francisco where people are accustomed to walking you will notice a lot less obesity there too. Come to LA where we have decent weather all year long, people spend more time outside living a healthy lifestyle as well.
For the record, the largest meals I can recall eating were done in Amsterdam and Barcelona
