today no one needs massive fleets of warships and tanks and hundreds of thousands of soldiers - you need small, flexible, effective units.
which overall at the end will be a lot cheaper than the current setup
lets be honest - there will be no WW III against China or Russia in the future. and even if so, it will not be fought on a battleground - soldier against soldier
the military needs to be reformed to adapt to modern times and current and future threads - the only problem is that the US military is a massive economic factor and reducing it to what would actually be needed would cost a few hundred thousand jobs in the army and their suppliers
and no one wants to be the one to be responsible for that.
