You can't even see the real heroes in this photo.

Daytime Guard Duty in a September rain is easy. Night Duty in an Afghan fire base in the chill of February is a real bear.

Only 7% of the U.S. population has served, and qualifies to be called a "Veteran".
There is no excuse for ignorance, yet it still remains a powerful force.

            The job is a privilege.

The Honor Guard is relentless in their training and slackers don't make the grade.

America should go the way of mandatory enlistment. When I speak with young people (25 to 30) from countries that have it they are so much more focused and dependable than the average American kid of the same age.

I think that has more to do with bad parenting. Parents of the 80s were lazy, mine never did anything to discipline me. Thankfully I turned out ok but I can't say the same for a lot of my old friends. It's only getting worse, kids run the show now and everyone is special or has a condition

These guys have professional sickness - and it's not because of the rain or wind, or bore.
It's because of the constant stand position - staying tall, tight - and they got problems with their backs - spine, pelvic bones and other problems concerning the same static stand.
                          It comes with years.

We have a similar thing with the Queens guards - In theory you can do pretty much do anything to them and they can not react in any way (not even smile) unless the Queen is threatened.

It's a privilege to do what they are doing, it's not an easy job. It's a tradition. I think the military should always be rich in tradition.
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
                                  think about that

Notice they don't have to just stand there in that position the whole time? In case it wasn't apparent.

Love the story about the guards, but it sucks that it has to be tainted by the ignorant commenters. It must've been linked from DrudgeReport. They're notorious for such hate-filled comments. It's impossible for them to just respect the spirit of the article.

I couldn't have done it, being in the Navy was one thing, but on a sub, we didn't even salute officers very much.
