So I'm on my way to my favorite coffee place in Austin to meet up with Pearl from Payoneer and after I park my car, this older guy (turns out he is 70) stops me to compliment my "13th Floor Elevators" T-shirt. Then he sees that it's signed by John Ike Walton, their drummer in the mid 1960s and asks me if I know him. Well... I see Roky Erickson play every year at SXSW and John always shows up and I talk to him. Great guy btw. Well it turns out, the guy that I'm now talking to is friends with the band, road tripped with them way back in the day, tripped with them as well LOL and had a few crazy stories to share. Turns out he's also very good friends with one of the original members. Then he tells me about a movie that he's in with them in a scene from like 45 years ago, so I go out and buy the DVD
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1554496/ ... anyway... to those who appreciate obscure music history and randomness of stuff like this... it was way fuckin cool. Very different from all of my random LA meetings.
