          I wonder what those kind of companies can offer after all the Google madness lately.
          I mean no one really has a clue what works and what doesn't at the moment. And even if you do it could change any day it seems.

              Lots of people have a clue and are doing well, even with newly-built sites.

              Yes, it could. However, it's not always hard to anticipate what Google will do next. Just stay up-to-date with current spam tactics and don't do those, or cover your tracks really well if you do.

                  Yes, it could. However, it's not always hard to anticipate what Google will do next. Just stay up-to-date with current spam tactics and don't do those, or cover your tracks really well if you do.

                      You know, think about it. Open a random thread about SEO on this forum or another forum. You'll find 30 "experts" who are all 100% certain they are right and will tell the other 29 they are wrong. And each of those 30 people will do that.
                      How can you know who to believe and to pay to get some SEO done?

                          No. I do my own SEO, thus my comments above. So never needed to hire one.

                          That being said, there's nothing wrong with SEO companies in general. The "if they're that good, why don't they do it themselves and bank" saying is kinda moot IMO. You can do both, or you can charge prices so high, that the "banking" gets done by providing SEO services.

                          You should, however, stay away from hiring Indians, Pakis, Indonesians, Filipinos etc. They'll fuck up your site so much it's not even funny. So if you wanna go the outsourcing site route, make sure you ask where they're from.

                          Anyway, what is it you need SEO-ed?

                              A forum. It gets some nice SE hits but i wouldn't mind getting more

                                  In many cases they're ALL right, albeit from different angles. Some will argue that shit works for them, although they haven't done anything lately. Some will argue that others are wrong, because they didn't get penalized in the latest updates (which doesn't necessarily exclude a penalty in future updates). Some will argue that poor quality will get you penalized and high quality won't, although both can be true or false depending on the situation. And so on.

                                  The point is you'll see people who only have experience with a fairly narrow segment of SEO and are unaware of other possibilities. Thus they are right and everyone else is wrong.
