    Canon HV20 and other HD-ish video workflow

    I'm the very happy owner of a new Canon HV20 camcorder, which I'm using to film content for my own site. Now I have tapes full of footage, but am wondering what the workflow should be like. I upgraded my computer to 4GB of RAM, Core 2Duo E6550 processor, etc etc, so hopefully that will be enough to handle the extra load.

    Any tips as to codec pack, output resolution, rendering times, etc would be very helpful. I'm not wanting to output true HD content, just a higher quality video for my members. (They aren't cutting edge guys at all, so I don't want to offer such huge files that they can't watch them or download them.)

          The HV20 is a decent piece of equipment. We have one as a secondary camera, and I have taken it with me on vacation. Take a look at hv20.com for some workflow info as well as tips on how best to use the cam.

                          HV-20 is a nice little piece of kit. My partner still edits his stuff on an OLD pc with less than a gig of ram. Works for him. Not gonna render fast but if it's stable you'll be fine. What are you using to capture and edit with?

                              I use Vegas Video for editing.. you can get free 30 day trial at:
                              http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/...egasfamily.asp

                              and play with it yourself.

                              if you are bandwidth conscious, i have encoded video in FLV format for like 320 Kbps streams and the video quality looks great and saves on bandwidth. I use some linux tools to convert to FLV.. so if have ssh access to your server, and ffmpeg is installed (logon and type: ffmpeg and if you see the help file scroll up, you have it installed). I can give you my ffmpeg string for encoding that i use.

                              THere are some free tools that can convert to FLV format, and there are free flash FLV players (i have one that works for me that i can point you to).
