Often the owner ran the traffic source before going into owning the affiliate program. So he just keeps doing what he always has done.

Several years ago we hired 5 local webmasters, who got to manage some high traffic sites in return for % of the income... Within 6 months 4 out of the 5 had stolen the software + traffic, and when we kicked them, then they started to complain how we mistreated them

From that day I learned to keep things inhouse, and only deal with people who has a proven track record

generating traffic isnt hard, and if you are paying someone to run multiple sites for you then overall it saves you money over paying an affiliate, hit me up if you are interested

A few years ago I was stupid enough to do the same as you. What I do is keep it ALL in-house and have staff do it parts (the grunt work) and then I weave it all together. I am the only one that completely understand how it all works.

Well if you do, get a really good work contract/NDA/non compete that IS legal.... A lot of the work contracts/NDA/non compete are actually badly written and illegal and won't hold in court.

I think it is always good to have in-house traffic (although never running an aff program in adult, have done so in mainstream). But I think there is a fine line you must keep between affiliates and your own in-house traffic. We've recently had a company copy our site idea and use the traffic sources we have because they knew it did well. So while in-house traffic is great for the growth and stability of a company, I think you have to keep it seperate from your affiliate business as to not earn a reputation for simply stealing your top affiliates ideas and data.

We have started a traffic department and so far things are coming along great.

Dude what kind of a silly circle jerk network is that lol?
It was like 1999 tube sites of thumbnails, zero that lead to anything
but other same similiar worthless sites, eventually to an oversized full page AFF ad... And that makes you money? Geez I must overthink everything
