What's wrong is they have tried to combine a desktop OS and a tablet OS into one.
I think it works well on a tablet. Not so much on a desktop.Comment

Like iPhone, iPad, OSX. MS playing catch up. About 5 yrs late.
by forcing people to get used to windows 8, it's going to make for a much more seamless transition into mobile devices (tablets, phones, etc)
then in the future when people pick up a microsoft tablet or phone, they'll intuitively know how to use it since it mimics their laptops / desktops... easier sell
as long as it has the 'classic shell' i'll be fine with it... windows 7 was perfect as far as i'm concernedComment

I have been using it pretty much since the day the beta was released. Its good but the lack of a "START" button will confuse at first.
Just make shortcuts to your most missed start button applications and it works like a dream - I haven't tried to click the non-existent start button for months
.
lol - I remember trying to turn the computer off in Win 8 for the first time - I had to Google it.
I never ever see the Metro crap BTW.....Comment

I would say that Windows 8 is a 'Power User' upgrade. It has pretty low hardware reqs compared to other upgrades but as an example if I put it in front of my mum so she could buy cheap handbags on EBay I doubt she would know where to start (excuse the pun).
It runs faster on low spec machines (for me anyway) than Win 7, just use the normal Desk Top.
If you use Metro then its a different story, it is SO slow it hurts.
Sorry about the random thoughts - Had a few beers

The Metro interface is pretty irrelevant, the only time I see it is if I decide to start up the Netflix app.
Windows 8 is really good with multi core systems. We installed it on a 3930k machine, did a couple of tests with Sony Vegas and found it was maybe 20% faster than Win 7 running on the same box.
Disk i/o seems a lot better and the way it handles and looks on high DPI displays is really nice.
We just installed it to test it out and never went back to Win7.Comment

This guy can show you how.... and I could not figure out how to exit out of a program... the interface is REALLY cumbersome to use. I have over 20 years of experience with computers too... I say this is going to be another "Vista" experience but with a worse user interface.
I'll be keeping my Windows 7. PC sales are about to fall... hard.
