On the black background I use blue links which seem to stand out.

simple is better, surfers this days don't look much on colors all they need is good content

But you need to test it what works for you

I seem to think the pics stand out more with the black but I have read alot of people say to use the white.

Thats a good idea, and maybe attach an ajax trigger to it when they switch styles to track the click if interested in the stats. Try one of each for a week and see which one they like more, then set that as the default.

my experience - light

have same sites with almost the same content one is white the other one is black...
and people stay longer on light one...

What matters is the midi-music you play in the background. I always convert better with "metallica-enter-sandman.mid"
