I wrote a big long theory about the increase in "traffic velocity" as explaining the use of worsening conversion rates as correlating to the increase in 'free' traffic.
The reality is the internet is like one big paysite doing X joins per month. At some point your 'rolling database' maxes out.. meaning, there's a rotating pool of customers of X times Y = Z. So, there are Z signups to go around every month.. some people drop out of the customer loop and new people are added.
The argument of the doom and gloomers is that the rate of entrance of new customers is far lower than the 'cancellation' rate, and thus the pool Z is getting smaller.
I don't buy this for a second. Early on the rate of growth of new people coming on the internet was so high, it skewed the numbers because of the growth rate. There were so many more new surfers as new people came on the internet for the first time, that is was many times greater than the cancellation rate.
What we are really seeing is the maturing of the internet, there are less and less potential customers getting online everyday.
As for younger generations being 'trained' that a certain product is free and therefore won't pay for it - it's complete garbage. People will ALWAYS pay for value. If they value it, they'll pay for it.
For example - digital music. Music is still a giant industry and billions of dollars are spend on digital music... even though many of us are 'trained' that it is free. The only people crying about digital music is old-school record distribution companies - ie middle-men. Their business is DEAD.. there's no room for a middle man anymore because te customer doesn't have to go to a store to buy it. So the artificial market created by music middle-men has been CRUSHED and music is moving towards a new equilibrium price. This will, in the end, benefit the artists and the digital distributors.
The equilibriums of each sector of the adult market are constantly changed by technology, overall trends in society, etc. Value moves around from various mediums, distribution channels, etc. The companies that make the most money are the ones who add the most value - who provide the service that the customer values the most, or who offers the most exclusive product.
What is the value of ripped DVD porn with the same camera angles, shitty lighting, the same over-exposed models?? What is it really worth to a surfer to see the same scene they've seen on 200 different sites, the same model fucking the same guy...
Content producers need to create strong, recognizeable brands. Economics is a wonderful thing, it is a self-correcting system that is always striving for equilibrium but is never actually in equilibrium.
They're probably underaged boys with no credit card - so they aren't even potential customers.
It's funny, because the only person in this thread so far with a clue is Robbie. Businesses that add value make money. First it was TGPs that would kill the business, then MGPs, then P2P, now torrents, etc, etc, etc....... markets evolve, but as long as you are adding value, you will make money.
So please, anyone and everyone who wants to leave the business.. hit-me up.. I can arrange for your adult-related business assets to be acquired.
Even "underaged boys" know how to use their parents credit cards or other billing methods. And don't forget, these boys will be your new generation of future customers. If they are used to download everything for free though, they sure won't take out their credit card to pay for porn once they are adults.
Regarding the second part of your comment, tgps and mgps are run by adult webmasters giving away only very "little" content compared to torrent etc. which offer full movies and are not run by adult webmasters trying to make money out of them. Additionally its not really the torrent or p2p sites what bothers me but primary rapidshare because they have real dedicated servers and charge money for their service! You probably have no idea how many people buy premium passes there.
Hey guys, I'm just saying that torrent sites haven't affected me. You can quote traffic to those sites all day long. And I'll say again..I would rather have ONE surfer from my Grampland.com than 1 MILLION torrent surfers.
And to DirtyProfits....if you think I'm ignorant that is your right. No, I don't LIKE torrents. It pisses me off because I have skin in the game. BUT, at the same time they are weak. REAL weak. They don't create anything. I think of them as cardboard facades of a building. There is nothing there but an empty front. Whereas I offer a REAL site that has a foundation and real working parts.
And as I said...if you and avolongold are really all that worried about torrent sites then by all means...call me "ignorant" as you leave the "industry" that you really aren't a part of anyway. I'll stay behind here and continue to make money with my real sites. And the torrent sites will fall to the wayside as the novelty wears off.
In my opinion it just made guys like me have to sharpen our skills and work a little harder.
But on a side note...if I ever do meet a torrent guy that has some of my stolen content on his site...Yeah, I'll beat the shit out of him. Just on principle. LOL!
It's not about staying or leaving the industry but how much more we all could be making. For example in 2002 I had little traffic but was doing quite good because my convertion ratios were awesome. In 2005 my convertion ratios were far worse compared to 2002 but I was making more money because I simply had more traffic. I made about $5000-7000 per month of my 404 traffic alone. Now in 2008 I could make so much more money if convertion ratios were like in 2002 or at least like 2005. Maybe sites like rapidshare, torrent, p2p or Zango only account for a small percentage each but seeing the big picture and combining all that it surely affects sales of everybody.
Even "underaged boys" know how to use their parents credit cards or other billing methods. And don't forget, these boys will be your new generation of future customers. If they are used to download everything for free though, they sure won't take out their credit card to pay for porn once they are adults.

uhhh.. I don't want 12 year olds as members!! And I 100% completely disagree with your "they will learn that it's free" comment, I addressed this in post number 47 or 48. It's a fallacy... economics simply doesn't work like that...
Also, as I stated, markets always strive for equilibrium.. and there are lots of period of time when there is disequilibrium.. but I have the utmost faith in free markets to self correct.
The truth of the matter is, many smaller and newer webmasters are getting discouraged from promoting adult sites because they notice that their sales are not as consistent as before. Most webmasters also know that there are sites out there that are profiting from giving entire movies away for free while they sweat it out trying to earn a living promoting sponsors.
All their hard work is being wiped out. I don't speak for all webmasters because there are some out there that make money from sponsors using clever and unique marketing strategies instead of the typical gallery submitter or there are those webmasters that have access to large amounts of reliable traffic.
The smaller webmasters are at the bottom of the food chain and there is not much for them to survive on once the bigger guys have had their take. More webmasters are turning to mainstream to help keep them afloat. If they notice they can make more from the mainstream over the adult, they usually will make the full transition over to mainstream.
If many sponsors say that their sales are "better than ever" or do not notice any drops in their sales, then all the power to them. But its hard for me to believe that with all the experienced webmasters that are trying non adult ventures, there are fewer webmasters to promote sponsors. Yes there are new webmasters that come into the industry, but they still need to learn the ropes and that takes time while people who have been here and have learned the ropes are valuable loses to the industry.
These are webmasters that may only send a handful of sales that may not seem important as the whales that promote the sponsors, but those couple of sales, whether 2 sales or 5 sales, translate to a lot when multiplied by the thousands of "smaller" webmasters out there.
Get the most out of your MILF or BIG TIT traffic with JUGG CASH!
Are you serious? Jesus! Let me tell you something...I've invested in a lot of "mainstream" web enterprises. It didn't make 1/1000th of what I make in adult. I don't know what dream world you guys are in...but it sounds good! LOL!
The first thing I tried in "mainstream" was affiliate programs to make sales with well known companies websites. Guess what? They pay a TINY percentage of the sale. And then guess what? Since it's a product instead of a subscription...they immediately start sending the customer emails with "special sales". Of course that means you just lost a customer and any future sales.
And that was just ONE thing I tried in mainstream.
I'm not even sure that some of the people whose ideas and pronouncements I'm reading in this thread are webmasters at all. Some of the shit I'm seeing here doesn't sound like people who are experienced in the internet in any way.
If I'm wrong, I apologize. But FUCK! I'm hearing all this talk about shit that I KNOW from experience. And instead of listening to the truth I'm telling you...I'm getting told:

WTF?!?!?!
Who the hell are you two guys to try and tell ME how shit works on the net? When I first started out I LISTENED to the people who were successful instead of running my dick skinners and being a smart ass. That's how you learn to make money. Not by somehow becoming "experts" when you obviously haven't had the experience to back it up.
All I have said in this thread since the get-go is that bit torrent sites suck. I'd like to burn them to the fucking ground. But NO, they don't affect my business.
Yes, they are hurting guys like Deluxe Pass and Porn Access who are selling subscriptions to sites full of old studio DVDs. I understand that. But that isn't what I'm doing. And no, it doesn't touch my Grampland.com site either. It's a niche TGP with a very faithful following.
Matter of fact, if you guys paid any attention to this thread you would see that the guys on here like me, Making It Pay, and Air3k are all of the same mindset.
We outwork and outclass that torrent bullshit.
What are you doing? Bitching about it on GFY? Talking about how YOUR sales suck...and then simply refusing to believe it when others tell you that "NO" our sales don't suck...they are better than ever. And growing.
Come on guys. Don't be so damn negative. The adult biz isn't going anywhere (at least not until the over oppressive govt. shuts it down)
If I thought for one moment that I couldn't overcome stupid shit like torrents and tube sites...I'd just quit or kill myself. I can't imagine not being smart enough to kick ass under any circumstance.
So stop complaining and start improving your game.
teksonline you still don't get what I'm saying do you?
That would be like you saying to a 5 star restaraunt that they must be "going off the edge" because McDonalds has so much more traffic than they do.
Well, I dunno what you are talking about, if you read my post at all my point is about LONG TERM scenario statements... Making money today has nothing to do with tommorow except for the point i was making, there will be no tommrow, and if you dont think tommorow will be here soon.. Well, then that's just too bad I guess...
As to the above comment.. well, you have just totally lost all perspective... Because you see, You are not the "5 star restaurant", you are the "McDonalds" in this picture and the "5 star restaurant" is now cheaper and more accessible than you. You watch, today you see 10 "5 star restaurant sites", them already doing 500,000 times the traffic of your "mcdonalds", all of this done in a one to two months time. Now watch in
the next 6 months. when 500,000 more 5 star restaurants start up...
Bro, you really don't understand anything I'm talking about. I'm not saying you are stupid or anything disrespectful like that. You just don't understand niches and targeted traffic.

Everyone's experience is different. Some things I have experienced in this business have blown my mind. Things I would not have believed unless I had actually experienced it. I know Robbie is the real deal and most likely would not argue if he was experiencing his program/sites going to shit. Don't mean to speak for you my man. Keep on keeping on.
"Getting a lot of sites trying to sell up recently, some have non exclusive content in. Anyone thinking of buying a program should read the content license. The seller might not have the rights to sell the content."

I love noobs who point to a single instance and proclaim it many.
If I were that silly, I'd ask why are so many old timers jumping back into adult and tearing it up.
I'm not a dinosaur, I'm a crocodile. I've seen dinosaurs come and go and I'm left unimpressed.

Please don't quote me out of context. I said you are ignorant regarding torrent and rapidshare. Furthermore I did not say that my sales are down but that my conversion ratios are far worse than 3 or 6 years ago. I blame free porn sources for that. A few years ago it was damn hard to find sources where you could download full porn movies from high speed servers. Nowadays it's not anymore and this affects total sales. I don't care if your sales are consitent or not. Of course if you have loyal bookmarkers for years they will generate the same sales every month.
Don't you mind at all if there is a complete site rip of your milf paysite on rapidshare?
I Xed some numbers out, so that surfers are not able to download.
Of course it bothers me bro! It pisses me off to no end. And it's very annoying and time consuming to take a few of my hours (that I don't have to spare) each week to hunt down my shit and write fucking emails to have them pulled down. I never said I liked bit torrent sites. Matter of fact when it first started I went ballistic.
Then I realized that my original business model was still superior.
Good quality work. Giving the customer what they want. Targeting your people. It's worked for thousands of years in brick and mortar and it still works today.
You see all these posts about "adapting" But they never say "How". Well, I'm telling you how. You simply use your talents to provide the entertainment that the surfer is looking for.
In our case in the adult industry...they want to jerk off.
So again, I say this: When I was 18 (and younger), all I wanted to do was see a naked picture. Just show me some titties and I was cumming in my pants.
But once I got older, the whole sexual experience became much more mental AND visual. Especially if I'm alone and decide to masturbate. And THAT is where I beat the shit out of scripted sites of any sort. Doesn't matter if they are a circle jerk software generated TGP, a Tube site, or a fucking Torrent site.
They simply can not provide what a GOOD webmaster can.
But back to my stuff being on rapidshare...yes, I will get to them when I get a few minutes. Yes, it pisses me off on the PRINCIPLE of my hard work being up there without my permission.
No, it hasn't destroyed my business. Yes, it may have cost me $100 bucks here and there in the odd exception to the rule. But no, it isn't stealing my traffic.
My traffic NEVER was 18 year olds and/or a low income demographic.
That is what the bit torrent site is for.
I saw that post about removeyourcontent.com But the problem I have with it is that I don't know the person running it. From reading a bit around here I came to the conclusion that it is associated with a poster on GFY who goes by "thonglife"
And "thonglife" tends to be kinda disrespectful in a lot of posts on here. I've had thonglife attack me in posts and even though we worked it out...I'm just not real excited about doing business with people that have insulted me.
It's one of the things that kinda blows my mind about some of the things I see posted on GFY.
Why would anybody come on a forum and insult other people in the business you're trying to make money with? It doesn't make much sense to me.
But I can tell you that I have actually removed galleries and dropped promotion of several affiliate programs based on the childish things that I have seen them post on here.
The way I see it is how can you be taken seriously if you come on an adult webmaster forum and start attacking people viciously? It's bad business.
And I avoid people who do it. So do a LOT of other serious webmasters and companies.
