i think it really depends on the maker of the vehicle, and mostly on the structure of the lock.

Dunno about other cars but with mine it's a deadlocking system, ie, you cannot secure the car unless you actually have the key or remote in your hand. The doors cannot be slam locked so there's no way to lock the keys inside.
I saw the Mythbusters ep too... this trick is probably possible with some older cars but the fact that the vid uses one with remote locking seems to defeat the purpose.

They tried it on a single car. Unless every car uses an identical locking mechanism I wouldn't be in a hurry to call it busted.
I personally think the video is a hoax, but I don't think the trick is impossible. They may have heard about it working on some older locks and gone from there.Comment

Well although i dont believe this trick here, youd be amazed at what a towtruck guy has... or if you call a locksmith for locking your keys in the car...
they have different 'doo-dads' for differnet makes and models...
each different make and model usually has a 'backdoor' weakness that you can penetrate the 'security' effectively with....Comment

How many people are going out right now to check their car?Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
