Hey BD, if you don't think it can happen you might be in for a sad 4 years. I wish I was as confident as you but I can't muster a laugh when I think of the possibilities.
There will NEVER be a black or woman president.

Are the Dems accepting more nominations for black candidates? Do you think a boy from the South would do well?

I am sure I will be in for a sad 4 years, because the democrats will probably fuck up and insure another Republican victory.

WTF are you talking about?
You really think that people are supporting Obama or Clinton just because of their race or gender respectively?
I'm sure there are a small number of people thinking that way, the same way there are some people who are going to vote for Giuliani just because he's Italian and some people who will vote for Romney just because he's a Mormon, but they will not be the ones to decide who the nominee is.
These candidates decided on their own that they wanted to run for president, there is no "democratic machine" somewhere that decided "oh since the republicans fucked up we can run anyone we want and still win"
The dems will likely make their decision based on who they think has the best chance to win in the fall, not based on any notion of political correctness. They've been out of power for 8 years and they want back in badly.sig too bigComment

I'd also like to head this off at the pass because I know people will say that's why they picked John Kerry 4 years ago....and that's true, but Kerry was the strongest among a field of very weak candidates.
The people who have a "real shot" at being president don't run against an incumbent during a war, and when the economy isn't in recession.
There's a good reason Hillary didn't run 4 years ago.
sig too bigComment
-
How did they come up with Kerry? Because 4 years wasn't enough?Comment
-
No they aren't.
If you're referring to the congressional approval ratings poll, you should know that almost nobody likes "congress" and those polls are never indicative of how congressional incumbents will do in their bid for re-election. (Unlike the presidential approval number which is almost always a good reflection of what % of the vote the president will get when running for re-election)
Nobody seems to like "congress" but almost everyone seems to like "their congressman", which is why there's so little turnover there.
The latest polling data shows that the Dems will likely increase their majority in the house, and end up with as many as 57 seats in the Senate.sig too bigComment

I've already explained this in another post....but I'll go further here.
Things were alot different 3 years ago and they could have reincarnated Harry Truman and still lost.
Most Americans didn't believe the war in Iraq was a mistake. Most Americans believed that Iraq had something to do with 9/11 and/or believed that we found WMD in Iraq.
I know you may think what I'm about to say is only because I live in the New Orleans area, but the truth is Katrina changed everything.
Katrina is when most Americans realized just how incompetent this administration is.
Katrina is also when we got our press corps back. (Bill Maher's words)
After 9/11 the Bush administration got what amounted to a free pass from the press corps. It wasn't until Katrina that they seemed to remember their job is to question the people in power, not to merely repeat what the people in power tell them.
Once the press started doing their job, people learned the truth about alot of things, and it's been really bad for the administration since then.
BUT, when Bush was running for re-election people didn't feel this way about him. Sitting presidents who have a good economy and are fighting a popular war simply don't lose elections.
The fact that it was even close and came down to one state is amazing.

What I can't figure out is why Nagin gets a pass for the Katrina fuck-up.

It was not the federal government who left those buses in a flooded field.
The real bad guys in the katrina fiasco are the greedy insurance companies who still have unpaid claims. These fuckers buy the politicians and fuck the policy holders. Pretty good deal

A black or female candidate will win only when they don't run on the fact that they are black or female. That and the press/supporters have to not make it their biggest trait.
Hillary and Obama supporters know little about them except for their gender/race. At the end of the day no one has ever won the white house based on gender/race.

YOU know little about Hillary and Obama other than their gender/race. Those of us supporting Obama know ALOT about him.
This whole argument comes off the rails when you look at the internal polling data anyways. Hillary leads among blacks and Obama is gaining among women. That wouldn't be the case if their support was based solely on race or gender.
The fact that Obama is doing as well as he is and DOESN'T have even 50% of the black vote is a testament to how strong of a candidate he is.sig too bigComment

I don't want to re-litigate the entire Katrina issue here....but I will say this.
The levies were built by the federal government. The Army corps of engineers.
This was not a decision the people of Louisiana were allowed to make. We had no say in how they were built, how well they were built, how strongly they were built, or how much money was spent on them.
Katrina was the disaster it was because the levies broke, the levies that were (and still are) the responsibility of the federal government.
Now I would appreciate it if those of you who don't know what the fuck you're talking about would just STFU about it.sig too bigComment

That's a red herring and you know it. It takes a majority of congress to "accomplish" anything, and you also know that since they both lack seniority they haven't authored any groundbreaking legislation either.
If I really thought you cared to know I would tell you why I support Obama and why I think he will be a great president, but the truth is you don't want to know....that fact that you think the only thing most of his supporters know about him is that he's black either shows how naive you are, or how biased you are.
People who vote in primaries, especially early state primaries, are the most educated voters in the country. (by educated I mean the most knowledgeable about the candidates and the issues) To think that the only thing they know about the top two candidates is their race and gender is ridiculous.
Although if you're supporting another candidate or another party I guess it will make you feel better to think the only reason your candidate is losing is because of reverse discrimination. So have fun with that.sig too bigComment

Senator Obama has been able to develop innovative approaches to challenge the status quo and get results. Americans are tired of divisive ideological politics, which is why Senator Obama has reached out to Republicans to find areas of common ground. He has tried to break partisan logjams and take on seemingly intractable problems. During his tenure in Washington and in the Illinois State Senate, Barack Obama has accumulated a record of bipartisan success.
Strengthening America Overseas
As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Obama has fought to strengthen America's position in the world. Reaching across the aisle, Obama has tackled problems such as preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction and stopping the genocide in Darfur.
Plan to End the Iraq War
Before the war in Iraq ever started, Senator Obama said that it was wrong in its conception. In 2002, then Illinois State Senator Obama said Saddam Hussein posed no imminent threat to the United States and that invasion would lead to an occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. Since then, Senator Obama has laid out a plan on the way forward in Iraq that has largely been affirmed by the bipartisan Iraq Study Group led by James Baker and Lee Hamilton.
Creating a Healthcare System that Works
"I...believe that every American has the right to affordable health care. I believe that the millions of Americans who can't take their children to a doctor when they get sick have that right...We now face an opportunity - and an obligation - to turn the page on the failed politics of yesterday's health care debates. It's time to bring together businesses, the medical community, and members of both parties around a comprehensive solution to this crisis, and it's time to let the drug and insurance industries know that while they'll get a seat at the table, they don't get to buy every chair." -Barack Obama, Speech in Iowa City, IA, 5/27/07
Fighting Poverty
There are 37 million poor Americans. Most poor Americans are in the workforce, yet still cannot afford to make ends meet. And too many poor Americans are single mothers who are raising children. Barack Obama has been a lifelong advocate for the poor -- as a young college graduate, he rejected the high salaries of corporate America and moved to the South Side of Chicago to work as a community organizer. As an organizer, Obama worked with churches, Chicago residents and local government to set up job training programs for the unemployed and after school programs for kids.
Environment
Barack Obama believes that we have a responsibility to our children to leave this Earth better than we found it. He has a plan to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and to turn the global warming crisis into a moment of opportunity for innovation and job creation. And as president, he will restore America's promise of a clean and beautiful environment by cleaning up our air and water, building healthier communities with fewer toxins, and preserving our forests and other national treasures. In doing so, Obama will make sure that our environmental laws and policies balance America's need for a healthy, sustainable environment with economic growth.
Energy
Senator Obama has been a leader in the Senate in pushing for a comprehensive national energy policy and has introduced a number of bills to get us closer to the goal of energy independence. By putting aside partisan battles, he has found common ground on CAFE, renewable fuels, and clean coal.
Technology and Innovation for a New Generation
"Let us be the generation that reshapes our economy to compete in the digital age. Let's set high standards for our schools and give them the resources they need to succeed. Let's recruit a new army of teachers, and give them better pay and more support in exchange for more accountability. Let's make college more affordable, and let's invest in scientific research, and let's lay down broadband lines through the heart of inner cities and rural towns all across America."
Fulfilling Our Covenant with Seniors
Americans turning 65 this year have grown our economy by 4.5 times over the course of their working lives. They have tilled our soil, defended our country, taught our children, worked in our factories, and raised a new generation to build upon their successes. And yet, many struggle to get by. Threats to Social Security and Medicare, skyrocketing health costs, and abuse and neglect of seniors all jeopardize our unspoken covenant: our seniors worked hard to take care of us, and now we must be here for them.
Improving Our Schools
Throughout America's history, education has been the vehicle for social and economic mobility, giving hope and opportunity to millions of young people. Our schools must prepare students not only to meet the demands of the global economy, but also help students take their place as committed and engaged citizens. It must ensure that all students have a quality education regardless of race, class, or background. Barack Obama is committed to strengthening our public schools to maximize our country's greatest natural resource - the American people. Obama believes that we must equip poor and struggling districts, both rural and urban, with the support and resources they need to provide disadvantaged students with an opportunity to reach their full potential. Too often, our leaders present this issue as an either - or debate, divided between giving our schools more funding, or demanding more accountability. Obama believes that we have to do both, and has offered innovative ideas to break through the political stalemate in Washington.
Protecting Our Homeland
Five years after 9/11, our country is still unprepared for a terrorist attack. From improving security for our transit systems and chemical plants, to increasing cargo screening in our airports and seaports, the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission have been underfunded and ignored. The 9/11 Commission gave the government five F's and 12 D's on the implementation of its recommendations. Senator Obama is a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and has supported efforts to base homeland security spending on risk rather than pork-barrel politics. He has also introduced legislation to strengthen chemical plant and drinking water security and to enhance disaster preparedness.
Immigration and the Border
Barack Obama has played a leading role in crafting comprehensive immigration reform. Obama believes the immigration issue has been exploited by politicians to divide the nation rather than find real solutions. This divisiveness has allowed the illegal immigration problem to worsen, with borders that are less secure than ever and an economy that depends on millions of workers living in the shadows.
Protecting the Right to Vote
There is no more fundamental American right than the right to vote. Before the landmark 1965 Voting Rights Act, barriers such as literacy tests, poll taxes and property requirements disenfranchised many Americans, especially minorities. More than 40 years later, there are still numerous obstacles to ensuring that every citizen has the ability to vote.
Honoring Our Veterans
As a member of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama is committed to helping the heroes who defend our nation today and the veterans who fought in years past. A grandson of a World War II veteran who went to college on the G.I. Bill, Senator Obama has reached out to Republicans and Democrats in order to honor our commitment to America's veterans.
Cleaning Up Washington's Culture of Corruption
Throughout his political career, Barack Obama has been a leader in fighting for open and honest government. As a U.S. Senator, he has spearheaded the effort to clean up Washington in the wake of the Jack Abramoff scandal. In a politically charged election year, Obama acknowledged that corruption was a problem that plagued both political parties. He subsequently enlisted the help of Republican allies to limit lobbyist influence, shine sunlight into the earmarks process and promote open government.
Strengthening Families and Communities
Strong families raise successful children and keep communities together. While Senator Obama does not believe that we can simply legislate healthy families, good parenting skills or economic success, he does believe we can eliminate roadblocks that parents face and provide tools to help them succeed. A husband and father of two, Senator Obama has promoted strong families in the Senate.
Reconciling Faith and Politics
In June of 2006, Senator Obama delivered what was called the most important speech on religion and politics in 40 years. Speaking before an evangelical audience, Senator Obama candidly discussed his own religious conversion and doubts, and the need for a deeper, more substantive discussion about the role of faith in American life.
You should vote for Obama for a new transparent leadership in washingon
You should vote for Obama for a new respect for America
You should vote for Obama to give control of government back to the people
You should vote for Obama because America cannot afford any more bad choices
You should vote for Obama because he is simply the best man for the job
Do youn eed more?

Most blacks do not vote based on race man... ask Obama... he struggles to this date to gain the black vote and truth be told my first choice for president would have been dennis kucinich over any of these people but I am smart enough to know that the republicans would eat him for dinner
if hilary gets the nod they will go after her
if obama gets the nod they are left speechless.... and we have a president who will be able to get some things done
sy hilary gets the nod and goes on to win the general election...republicans will fight and booby trap her every step of the way.... it will be almost impossible for her to really govern with all her baggage and favor debt from her husbands years
Obama would come in clean with a clean slate and a clear wall to draw a new america on

And this Sagi is where you have fallin victim to hype of traditional politics
How long a person has spent in politics is not and cannot be the true gauge of ones potential or experience
I mean think about it
No president has ever came to power with as much experience as George W Bush… his dad was vice president … then president he himself a governor his brother a governor… this is a man raised and taught presidential politics his entire life
And just about alienated the whole world and destroyed America in 8 years
So I ask you…. What exactly is your point? Are you saying that being a hardened politician is a requirement to become president? I disagreeLast edited by pussyserver - BANNED FOR LIFE; 12-11-2007, 09:06 AM.Comment

I doubt they will ever run on the same ticket as Hilary is pissed to Qatar about Obama running in the first place. She felt she was entitled to the nomination and that the democrats owed it to her. From what I am hearing she absolutely hates him for running. That plus the fact you must consider the Bill factor? should Hilary get the nod the VP position will be about as important as ?chief limo driver commander?
Bill will overshadow both in the press and the republicans & faux news will latch onto his presence as a way to energize the Christians?.then its war and chaos all over again as both sides slug it out in the media on the forefront and America continues its slow decline in the backgroundComment
