All it takes to be credible to Johnny, is to make-up a strange story with elements of science-fiction and occult, with no actual proof or evidence.
Kind of like the superstition crazes that swept through various periods in our history. Witch hunts, vampires and werewolves, satanic panic, McCartheyism, etc... Always involved in causing great harm to innocent people.
