Why do you all want to chat talent up on the phone beforehand? I get why you might want to see them in person before booking and I get why you'd decide to just trust that they still look like their pics and the pics are not overly retouched. But what does their phone chat have to do with what they will look like on camera?

Boyfriends that call themselves "managers" often pretend to be the girl, pretend to agree to whatever is asked, and later the girl shows up not knowing what was agreed to.
Only talking to the female voice, and listening closely to hear reaction to questions, can assist in planning a perfect shoot. Personality is very important - if the girl is a bitch, if she sounds like she is on some drugs that will make her photograph less than perfectly, she needs to be skipped over for a higher quality candidate.
