But when focus changes in this business the people you put in charge to oversee the operations is very important and in this case the wrong choices were made in my opinion.
That can be the toughest thing in business and online is no different. It's funny ... one of the names on this list of "I so trust .........." you now find a few threads wondering why they haven't paid their webmasters lately. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that if there has been any big lessons I've learned in the last 11 years is that you shouldn't trust any company 100%.
Sure today they may be paying you on time, and you don't think they are doing shady things like shaving but you really never know what tomorrow may bring.
Always keep an eye out for the slightest thing and the first sign of something RUN as fast as you can to the next guy because I promise you, given the chance most people will fuck you in the ass for a quick buck and never give it a 2nd thought. I'm pretty certain i know what you mean here, and while i do agree to an extent (about the good company frontmen beeing hard to find), i still believe, that people are very hard to change. When i get a good feeling about someone, and that someone shows me the same trust i expected, and continues to do so over the years (in your case 9), i wouldn't be so easy to change my mind. I still have upmost faith in the same people i had, even if the "company" presented some "strange" moves. And in the case of the company you hinted about, i'm still 100% certain it is honest people, and i'll believe in that as long as the head of the company is who it is (same guy that earned so much of my trust over years). I hear you. What really sucks is these programs not getting called out enough.
Naughty America is the one I have trusted the most. But recent events scare me. Even so they still are on top for me.
I like to look for the games being played. A sponsor who would shave you disrespects you and will usually play these other games with you such as not answering emails, late payments, changing the terms, lying, and so on. The same disrespect and theivery which causes shaving also brings these other things.

Trust as far as what? Getting paid? Not getting shaved? Trusting that the program/program owners will choose to do the right thing in the face of an industry crisis?

For most programs I deal with it comes down mostly to getting paid (on time or at least in a timely manner), sales tracked fairly, and lastly owners who have some semblance of integrity about them.
There are plenty of programs that fit most of that, for me anyway.
Been an affiliate at one time or another of several of Lensman's programs... amateurpages, erasercash, adult platinum, etc etc. have always gotten paid. In fact even though his perclick program is long gone I STILL get paid a cheque every few months for clicks I continue to send from long-forgotten pages.
Maxcash, Flashcash, Stiffycash, Gammacash --- have always been paid and have been an affiliate of all of those for over 8 years.
PussyCash --- I have been associated as well as affiliated with PussyCash for nearly 3 years now. I don't impress easy but their actions over that time has been nothing short of exemplary in all things as far as I've seen. Ten thumbs up on this one.
Topbucks, definitely. Been with them since the days when they were Topcash with their 4c/click programs, AmateurPie etc. Always paid.
Standard Internet programs such as the old clickthrucash program, and now 12clickscash... I have always been paid like clockwork.

as much as I like many of the sponsors out there I do not trust any of them. At least not 100%. 50% maybe, but you can't fully trust anyone unless you know EVERYTHING. Sure, they may make me money, convert great, retain etc.. etc.., but does that mean that they are worthy of 100% of your trust? I'm not going to hand out my trust to just anyone just because I make sales with them.
