I'm considering buying myself an Iphone. Are they really worth it? Who has one and do you have any problems with them?

i have one. i like it, and i hate phones.
the thing is, you can't really ask for a "final verdict" just yet because the phone is so young. A few important things are happening in the near future.
1) in february Apple will begin allowing 3rd Party developers to build applications that run directly in the iphone. that will be a HUGE improvement.
2) supposedly AT&T is upgrading their datanetwork to be faster.

I have one and love it, no problems so far, very easy to use and packed with features. The one downfall is the lack of sending pics in text messages and receiving them, but you can send them using the email functions of the phone.

Googles open phone system for all carriers except for ATT (or whomever is locked into iphone) is what will kick ass and actually do something we need as a damn country. A fixed standard like in Europe.Comment

i actually kinda like the camera. it's quirky.
what - for me - is sorely lacking is a native IM application - but i'm crossing my fingers that in february we'll get that from 3rd party developers.
from what i hear about the "3g upgrade" it's not really gong to 3g it's just that AT&T is beefing up their current data-network to be more competitive with 3g. from what i hear, you won't need new hardware/new phone to take advantage of it.
also about it locking up. i'm a little bit shocked how often things crash on it. they were developing jaguar at the same time, so i think they spread themselves to thin. The quirkiest app is Safari. I'm counting on significant upgrades to it in the next few months.
So again - i don't think you can give a "final verdict" - then next 3-6 months will really prove if the iPhone is awesome or just "cool".

Its inferior to many other phones
shit camera
no MMS or video capture
not 3G
Despite all this i have one as its very easy to use and is the only phone i've ever used without needing to look at the manual. iTunes/iPod is good.
The 4 above points i do not use anyway and ease of use for me is better than a phone with tons of features i wouln't use

I've had it since it came out and while i'm a big supporter of apple i have to be honest with my review. It's buggy at times freezes up, It's extremely fragile i'm on my 4th one due to the screen cracking on normal drops. The email sucks and is incomparable to blackberry when it comes to mail. There are some good points to it, I love the interface and the ease of use it offers, & the voice mail is amazing. It actually saves teh VM's as a file on your phone whichi found to be brilliant. The SMS is also pretty cool. Like i said it has a lot of great bells and whistles, but I think it needs time to evolve.

i dont have one (i dont get reception with ATT out in the boonies), but here are some things to consider,
- being a full LCD visual phone, you dont get the tactile feel of the buttons, which means you have to look at the phone every time you dial. so this could come to play if you're one of those who use the phone a lot while driving =/ (does it have voice recognition dialing? i dunno, i hope so)
- awesome multimedia interface with the touch screen.
to me, iphone is more so a multimedia toy.. a blackberry is better for business.Comment

Seriously? My camera rocks. Check to make sure your lens is not smugged. But take it back and have them replace it if it's shitty.

I'm in the market for a new phone. iPhone is cool and I am developing for it, but I'm going to get a new blackberry. Have wifi, gps, a real physical querty keyboard, and a 2mp camera. All for less than the iPhone. The only part of the iphone I am interested in is web browsing.Comment
