went to bed at 11 PM was awake past midnight and got out of bed at 3am. Then started working at around 4 am and have at least an 11 work day ahead of me....yeah, I have insomnia quite frequently
the best thing I have found that helps me is to try and stay active until bed time. Get up and pace a bit from time to time, smack my punching bag (his name is Phillip dont ask), stretch. Anything I can to stay alert...it has helped as far as staying asleep but getting to sleep after I lay down takes an average of 1 to 2 hours of clockwatching
