I made the switch from Android. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but with the ability to sell it and grab the next version of the Galaxy line in 5 months or so, I gave it a shot.
It's a bit confusing coming from Android. The amount of configurable options this has compared to Cyanogen 10, is laughable...but I knew that I was throwing customization out the windown when I signed up.
The keyboard is HORRIBLE compared to the current default Android JB keyboad and other options like Swype.
Aside from that, I have all the same apps (Google and all) switched over and they're all pretty much identical. The ones I have that aren't available on Android are really nice in comparison to to their droid replacements.
The hardware is quite nice and solid. The new earpods are not comfortable.

Had the phone 3 days now and wife has made her first complaints... the phone gets hot. Really hot. The aluminum back really holds the heat in, I guess. She tried to take a photo today with it today and an error appeared and said it was too hot to open the app. We turned it off and waited a bit and it seemed ok then.
Also, the signal is definitely weaker. Her iPhone 4 she used to be able to use inside our house. This phone... "No Signal". Guess we need to buy the signal booster to use inside the house...
We have another one coming on October 5, so we'll see then if it's just this phone or if there's a bigger problem...

That is super strange. I'm looking at 4 bars and a 37Mbps downlink connection in my condo and 14Mbps uplink with 90 millisecond ping. I've experienced thus far 24 hours standby with 8 hours usage... And the only time the phone really heated up was when I was heading to a party in Alameda from Oakland earlier tonight. Took maybe a half hour to get there and I had the nav going during the trip.
So far I'm incredibly happy with the purchase. The 4S would never give me more than 12 hours standby. But the 4S always had a strong signal where I'm at as well. I'm going to assume the issues you're describing are most likely a weak LTE signal issue...
