It's along the lines of BMW ads versus Ford ads. BMW is "The Ultimate Driving Machine", because their product stands strong on it's own. And Ford is "Have you driven a Ford lately?". It's along the lines of saying "We know everyone thinks we suck... can you come back and give us another try? Please?" Oh and let's not forget about Chrysler's "Imported from Detroit" slogan. It's like they're saying "We know BMW, Audi, and Mercedes make better cars than we do... but we're going to try to use the 'import' wording creatively to lend some cred to our crappy widget factory..."

Apple doesn't talk about their competition. Samsung should take a tip.
I love Apple. I use both a MacBook and an Iphone. I always find your posts to be well thought out and very insightful, but I think you are forgetting Apple's key advertising platform, The "I'm a PC, and I'm a Mac" ones. They did exactly that, pointed to the flaws in PC's.

People who prefer the Iphone's GUI will buy again. So what that they might not have all the gadgets of the GalaxyS III. I would guess that a vast majority of the consumers out there won't use them all anyways. They just like to point out that they have them, and could use them if they actually had a reason to or remembered about them. I like Mac because its simple to use and, in my own experience, never puts a foot wrong and has never let me down. I subscribe to the "if it aint broke, don't fix it mentality, and apparently don't mind that I live in Apple's sandbox.

I should also say that the commercial just seemed a little snide, and not in a funny kind of way.
