Can someone help me out on a human resources issue??

Say employees do not smile enough, because they are low on morale and managers dont respect them enough, is that human resources?

Because I thought human resources were simply the use of people in a business, for example, if you have only 5 people and you need 7, thats a human resource issue.
yet I have just read the above in a human resources journal

The first is a morale and ill trained or worthless manager problem.

The second is under staffed.

Human resources is the PC term for personnel office (staffing) and their functions.

am i right by the way in saying that moral issues are human resources issues? just a yes or no, no offense but i am confused on this topic and just need simple clarification, not more explanation lol

Yes. It usually falls under the Human Resources department to work with Management to come up with ways to improve employee moral.

In a large corporation the day to day running of the business is the responsibility of MANAGEMENT and MANAGERS. Not human resources or the personnel office. HR might be asked to sit in or monitor (usually for legal reasons) the hiring or the firing or employees or changes of policy. Morale is a product of management policy and actions.

A worker might be called a human resource but "Human Resources" has nothing to do with morale. EXAMPLE: Employee moral falls because management decides to cut hours, trim back bonuses, increaser hours, etc. This is not a "Human Resources Division" issue. It's management.

scottybuzz, the "personnel office" where vacation and sick time is monitored. Where employee benefits like insurance and time of service raises are tracked underwent a PC change and became "Human Resources"

This was done to cover corporate ass when discrimination hiring/firing/promotion became an issue. They don't run the business. They are tolerated by the business.

thanks, so therefore it is NOT a human resource issue that employees in barbados are not happy while working in hotels, because the tourists expect it. and they are no respected enough as a person.

that is not human resources, more management yes?

Yes. That's an HR issue.

HR is divided into

1. Recruitment
2. Benefits and compensation
3. Training and development
4. And... Employee relations (in which employee morale is being monitored)

I should know... i was in human resource for almost 7 years

That shows HR did a shitty job hiring and management is dealing with employees that are not helpful and friendly by nature. That is a no win position for management.

Your initial post made it seem like good employees suddenly developed attitude problems. That would be a management created problem. You now are saying the employees don't want to ass kiss in an ass kissing job. That IS a hiring problem.

Right thanks alot i think i see now, no wonder I got confused!

Say there morale was low because they got a paycut, thats managerial, now human resources.

Say they were hired to work in the fbi and they were not serious people, then thats human resources.
