The difference is $350K will get ya nothing elsewhere man - that's only 236K Euros or 169K GBP, - and properties elsewhere are not devaluing, but increasing.

Despite that - it's sad if that house is on the market for just $350K. It sure ain't worth building for that money.

You can get condos on the beach or the river here in Florida for $350k. There are a lot of places you can easily buy a nice place for 350k in the states. Just because a hood house is a million bucks in Cali doesn't mean the rest of the country is the same.

Sure... everything is relative. Can show you condos up to $2mill, but also homes for around $350K here.

The difference is that the stock of unsold homes on the market in the US at the moment is enough to supply home sales for a year ahead - and this is increasing weekly and likely to be a very bad year ahead where home prices will continue to decrease. The likelyhood of losing value on a purchase now is fairly high.

That's a totally different scenario to the home market in the EU, Caribbean or Latin American regions where homes are actually increasing in value. We have a fair number of home plots available, but the plots alone are in the region of $200-240K and increasing at, conservatively, around 40%/year - so no reason to rush and sell. Actual homes are getting harder to find and people are buying "pre-constuction" properties which rise in price around 4%/month - crazy.

Other aspects are... (will use CR as an example) - there are very little property taxes - usually around $100-150/year and generally no other taxation. Can't say that is a reason for constant real estate appreciation, but it prob plays a part. The main reason for increases are interest from folks from North America (more Canada lately) and a fair number of people from the EU where that level of home purchase is absurdly low in comparison to EU prices.

Only my - think many Florida homes are excellent value now, but sure to generally lose money (forgetting any property taxes etc on them). Used to live in Florida and liked the place a lot and now think it's almost criminal to see decent homes going for these low prices - and knowing many people will have their lives impacted by the current problem.
