What concerns me is that there's really very little that's special about Apple's look and GUI. What would stop a company from simply going through and patenting any and every reasonable option for a phone design and GUI? So other companies would either have to pay ridiculous royalties or come up with something ridiculous that would never sell?
This kind of stuff and just the brokenness of the patent system to begin with that is resulting in these ridiculous lawsuits worries me. The lawyers win, everyone else loses. Apple's not going to give their customers any kind of price break because of a nice new inflow of $1 billion. Samsung would however need to raise prices to make their money back more than likely. So consumers who couldn't afford Apple shit will get fucked.
I honestly hope Google with their new Motorola patents rapes Apple just to officially hopefully get the patent system looked into.
