$sudo chmod +x /etc/X11/X
$startx
If that doesn't work and you get "/etc/X11/X is not executable" then do this as root:
apt-get --reinstall install xserver-xorg-core
then
dpkg-reconfigure -a
When you are running, e2fsck partition should be unmounted, like a live CD or USB or something like that.
