You are never hungry during the diet days. If you are, it means you don't eat enough fat. Fat brings a lot of energy. This is not a diet to eat less, I eat maybe the same amount of calories, just no carbs. Not sure if its 100% atkins, its a little adjusted not to lose muscle.
I'm always reading that during the diet, the brain doesn't work properly until it gets used to no sugar, which can take 1-3 weeks, but I had never a problem with that. Actually I don't see any difference when it comes to thinking or using my brain for work at all.
