    When: November, 23rd 2007 - North America (International November, 24th 2007)
    Why: Buy Nothing Day is an informal day of protest against consumerism observed by social activists. It was founded by Vancouver artist Ted Dave and subsequently promoted by the Canadian Adbusters magazine. The first Buy Nothing Day was organized in Vancouver in September of 1992 "as a day for society to examine the issue of over-consumption." While critics of the day charge that Buy Nothing Day simply causes participants to buy the next day. Adbusters states that it "isn't just about changing your habits for one day" but "about starting a lasting lifestyle commitment to consuming less and producing less waste."

              Sounds about as intelligent as that "don't buy gas" day... I'm sure the corporations will be weeping over the low Friday sales as they're counting the record sales on Saturday.

                      Its not about hurting the corporations. Its supposed to be so that we pigs (US citizens, primarily) think about our lifestyles of indulgence, excess, waste and piggishness and how much crap we buy that we don't fucking need and the waste created as a result of it and how we are going to try and do better.

                      You can always buy your beer the day before and hookers... well, if you pay for it on Thursday and have the service delivered on Friday, thats still OK.
