      Alexa is a joke.

Alexa only count's views from people who have their toolbar installed which is mostly webmasters & self proclaimed SEO experts.

Probably 1 person out of every 100K use alexa

Their tracking tool comes bundled in lots of stuff... but yeah it's not accurate.

Traffic doesn't mean productive traffic, there are loads of people with huge site networks, without big flagship sites, making ALOT more than a TGP with nice Alexa ranking.

Right on. One of my sites that is at the bottom of my list in traffic is on the top of the list for earnings.

I have no sites doing well on alexa.
But I'm also making more money than any of my family and friends in this industry.

There's more than one way to make money in an industry of sponsor promotion.

If after 4 years in the business you are still using Alexa to determine the profit a site makes then perhaps you should be working at McDonald's.

My alexa rankings are not a reflection of income. I could care less about what alexa thinks of my site.

I filter a lot of my traffic and I have a site that after filtering through other sites gets maybe 30-40 hits a day at most and Ive been making daily sales from it for months.

Sory I didn't read every post on this thread.

But Alexa doesn't really reflect web prominence anymore, especially since IE 7 came out.

It used to be a good barometer, but www.LiveCamNetwork.com, which was ranked at 47,000 or so, then when IE 7 came out, dropping all toolbars and such (and Alex only measures the web habits of users with the Alexa toolbar on their browsers), we disappeared... and so did www.2much.net and every other site with a decent rating...

Now surfers are wiser and Alexa had a bad rep as spyware and Google has a great Toolbar, etc etc... we all took a hit there...

But ultimately who cares. Alexa says we went down, our traffic remained steady, and revenue went up...

All I can say is... Nyah nyah.

My tgp has a higher traffic ranking on alexa than my best paysite, and it just went up (still under construction/not being promoted), and I'm only making gas money on the tgp, wherin the paysite is doing very well for me.

It's not just how much traffic gets there, but what that traffic does when it arrives.

I'd have to concur that alexa means jack shit.
