    Is it really that difficult to differentiate between YOUR and YOU'RE?

    Every few months there is a thread on GFY talking about the proper use of Your and You're

    YOUR is a possessive adjective, indicating ownership of something
    That is your sock.
    Where is your potato?

    YOU'RE is a contraction (combination) of you and are
    Do you know what you're doing?
    You're stupid.
    The two are not interchangeable.

    Getting it wrong makes you look stupid. And ugly.

I had to edit every single report and memo my former boss wrote before they were disseminated, because he was not only confused about your/you're, their/they're/their, and to/too, he also habitually confused "algorithm" with "logarithm." (He also hilariously confused "whether" and "weather," which I was always tempted to NOT correct in the final draft.)

                                                                      This guy was the director of operations at a company that had millions in annual revenue and over 60 employees in its production department. It was all good though, because in reality his actual job was to be the president of the company's brother-in-law.... and he definitely had all the hard-earned qualifications needed to hold that crucial position. ;-)

                                                                                          I know the difference between There, Their and They're, but after a couple of drinks or just plain stupidity, I make a grammar error, my GF or her family will act as I committed high treason or some other heinous crime. I made a mistake, I don't need to hear about it hourly for the next month.

It's easier to label someone a "grammar nazi" than use the correct grammar.

I can not imagine how somebody could mix up your and you're or there and their etc. I mean its stupid mistake even for non English speakers, its unimaginable how English speakers could do such a mistake.
                                                                                                                                                                                                      One more that bugs me: too and to... How could someone which is native in English "I like it to" instead of "I like it too"? Its surprisingly common mistake.. I mean too and to even does not sound similar, one is clearly long and one is clearly short word when spoken.
