    Anyone here own a 3D TV?

    I am trying to decide whether I want to buy a 3dtv or just regular HDtv.

    I love 3d, I think the concept is super cool when it comes to movies. I know there was a lot of hype about this when it came out for TV, and even some sports were showing games in 3D. I am curious if anyone here has it, how much programming is available for 3d, and if its cool and truly worth it, or if its really just a bunch of hype and bs.

    Curious to hear from people that own it already and see what they have to say.

      I have a samsung 3d television. When I bought it, I assumed it came with the glasses. That cost me another trip back to bestbuy and I had to shell out like 3 bills for 2 pairs of glasses. I bought a few 3d dvds and it was pretty neat at first. My cable provider provides no 3d channels at this point and the movie library is fairly limited.

      At this moment, I probably could not find the glasses if you paid me. I never used it more than once or twice.

      In my opinion, it's just a gimmick. In the future it might be cool

          If you have enough space go for a projector, the technology these days is impressive and at 120"-140" the results are wow

              I have a Samsung pn58c7000. 3D wasn't a factor in my decision to get it, but it was a cool side thing.

              DirecTV has some offerings, but not much. We have watched a few sporting events in 3D that were pretty cool.

              I think that the technology probably has a ways to go, really. My living room is long and narrow. If you are sitting on the couch that is in a direct line to the TV, the 3D effect is great. Otherwise, it is a bit disorienting, I think.

                  Any recommendations and what the set up is like. I basically have an entire wall to fill so I am pretty sure I have the space. Unsure how its all set up though since its a pretty big room, im guessing they attach to the ceiling some how in the middle of the room?

                      Most people don't use the 3d. Only when it's new you watch a few movies in 3d, and that's it.

                          I'm in the same boat as you. I bought one nearly two years ago (Sony 55NX810) and have used the 3D maybe twice. My wife and I watched one movie in 3D (Bolt since I figured the animation would make the 3D look better) and we were glad to get the glasses off at the end of the movie, and it wasn't all that good looking.

                          I've also tried the 3D with Call of Duty on Xbox and Gran Turismo on PS3, neither of which looked like 3D to me.

                          With 3D televisions, you can see depth, but nothing pops out at you like the theaters.

                          Samsung definitely had the best 3D I've seen, and LG wasn't bad either. Bought the Sony because I got one insanely good deal. If I had a choice, I'd go with the 9000 series Samsung I think it was.

                              Yep, and I was just saying at my parents that I wish I had forgotten about 3D and gotten a bigger and better TV for the same price.

                              That said, my LG 3D TV is awesome, we just don't watch enough 3D...mostly because there isn't a lot of it.

                                      The 3D is actually pretty awesome. It's pretty close to perfect with the movies that were filmed in 3D or are animated. The real problem is that there's not a ton of content. Maybe 30 Bluray films with 3D available, tops.

                                          bought my tv when 3d first started getting popular and ended up going one model below the 3d one because i thought id never use it..apparently i was right

                                              Biggy, you dont need to have the projector in the middle since you can adjust the lens. While they have an optical zoom as pointed above the, larger the screen size, the larger the distance you'll need. I have an Epson 3lcd and does wonders. I suggest to go for a mounted screen since even the most expensive ones you can roll down eventually are going to have "waves". I'm not very familiar with 3d projectors, but I assume they are pretty good

                                                  TV is a social activity. Wearing 3-D glasses eliminate the social aspect. I know a few people with them, none of them use the 3-D features regularly.

                                                      Unless you're watching a True 3D movie shot with a true 3D rig, in imax and adjusted to show the true brightness, 3D sucks donkey balls. Most 3D movies are converted from 2D "flat" movies into 3D in post production. The process works in some scenes once in a while but many times its still just flat. Case in point : Thor.
