MCSO deputies raid GNC warehouse

PHOENIX -

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies raided a General Nutrition Corporation warehouse near 63rd Avenue and Buckeye Thursday morning.

MCSO's Jeff Sprong says the vitamin distribution business may be employing as many as 21 suspects using false identifications to secure employment.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says about 30 of his deputies are involved in the operation.

Arpaio says five people were arrested. One person was hiding in a women's bathroom, while another tried to hide under some type of equipment.

Someone familiar with the business tipped off the Sheriff's office about illegal immigrants using fake IDs.

Arpaio says two of the identifications used in this case belonged to dead people.

The business remains open. GNC, which is headquartered in Pittsburgh, has not commented about the situation.

Reality is that employers who hire illegals should be prosecuted. However what happens is they might get a fine and the illegals will be deported. They will then just hire more.

Exactly; however the artificial line drawn does exist and the rules apply round the globe.

I did not write the law and think it is absurd, but it is the law. It is questionable whether a local sheriff has the authority to do what he is doing and he is just looking for headlines.

America Should very careful about the immigration policies, as the jobs that these migrants do In the US are for the most part the ones the most Americans will NEVER DO.

That said, if you take away all immigrant needless to say you will have struggling sectors as most Americans don't want to do those jobs.

I hear this argument all the time, but it's wrong because it ignores history.

Those jobs did in fact get done 20, 30 and 50 years ago.

How can that be, if only illegals will do them???

Did those jobs maybe pay a half decent wage at one time long, long ago?

This issue goes back much further, Mexican's have crossed into US to do picking and more for generations. Until the great depression no one much cared. These laws started in that time frame and are motivated by the same political words now.

Illegals used to be deported. Now they are tossing them into a for profit prison to stay for a year.

the sanctions law will help with most of it. sb1070 is just part of the weapon. I do think that businesses that repeat hiring illegals should face some jail time.
