    The best way to...

Ok so imagine you are in this situation:
    • You cannot afford a better server as of yet
    • The server you have is virtual, and Comus Thumbs does not work on virtual
    • nor does any TGP software you know (correct me here as this would be easiest)
    • You have a list that looks like this to manage your galleries and a script to build the page with it. Your galleries move constantly.
    • You do not have any prior experience with SQL, but are willing to learn.
    • You want to count clicks on each thumbnail by ID, by date, and by position.

How would you go about keeping track of the clicks and sorting the galleries in this case?

My current solution is to link to out.php?url=yaddayadda.com&id=yadda001. Then out.php takes the info, along with this text file, and turns the text into an array and increments the appropriate elements, then converts it back to text and saves it, and sends the surfer to "url".

It seems a little inefficient to me, and I would like to be able to have the link go directly to the gallery itself and still keep track of the stats. Is that possible? If it is, how would you do it?

    Thanks

      aplus hosting.

The main reason why most scripts don't work (including LinkEx, partly) is because I have to request via e-mail for the host machine to open a Socket Connection.

So in the case of LinkEx, for example, the backlink verification does not work because it needs to open a connection to read the page to check for the link. The update button also doesn't work, but I update manually. Comus does not install because it grabs the install files from a remote server. Even if I do install successfully, it also won't work well because, from what I understand, it reads the galleries you are importing to determine information about each one.

but smart-thumbs you say? I'll check it out. Thanks!

they still haven't gotten back to me. I signed up for the free script, but it said my domain URL is invalid (http://sexyoptions.com/). It said it might be missing the trailing slash, but I suspect it is that there's no www. We don't have www.sexyoptions.com pointing to us though (and I don't know why.)

anyway I figured I'd bump this and I also was wondering if my solution might lie in SQL?

Caro was offering a special right now on a dedicated box. Think it was around 100 bucks a month, and Oxeo has some decent shared boxes that run every script I own (I know, one's running comus, TM3 and blogs organizer currently without a hickup.)
