Posting a Job on CL = Flakes!

We've put up several sales job posting on craiglist and its been a headache dealing with the responses.

Since it's a sales job, we only put a phone number... I want to hear why you are good at sales, not see a resume full of sales jobs. The calls I've gotten have been anywhere from okay to idiots wanting money up front... WTF?!?!

So far, we had 3 candidates that were supposed to start with us. One on Friday and two today. The guy from Friday insisted on that I buy him an iPad to do work. I said I would no problem after he closes his first deal, as an iPad is not needed. Rather, he told me if I didn't get him an iPad, he wasn't going to work.

Today, BOTH guys flaked. The one this morning, never heard from him. No calls, nothing. 2nd guy was supposed to be here this afternoon and I called him five minutes after he was supposed to be here and said he was finding parking. I waiting 5 minutes later and tried again, but no answer.

Although this is a sales position, you would think there is people that want jobs and will work for money. Most are just looking for a handout with some easy cash so they can keep checking updates on Facebook

It's not that difficult in all honesty, not like its MLM or some BS product, so I don't get what the deal with these people. In LA this was easy, we had 10 people in one day and even the guy who was a screen writer made $40k/year giving an almost half-ass effort

because paying $300 per site is ridiculous considering the responses. Posted on 2 local job boards and one sales board and got 4 responses. None of the qualified.

I've decided to start looking for design and content writing work now that I have all of my sites updated into the new year and don't want to keep building. Craigslist, among other places, has been where I've been responding to ads. I find it's the same thing with people offering work. They want their work done for nothing, or for my "great benefit of adding their site to my portfolio."

So far I've had one solid gig after emailing at the very least 100 people from all over the country. That was for a $50 Ebay template, lol.

What type of sales person are you looking for? I use to sell lubricants (seriously) for a local oil company. It was one of my favorite positions. I traveled up and down New Jersey talking with people and taking orders all day long.

Are you offering base/draw or commission only? A seasoned sales rep won't take you seriously if you cannot offer a modest base of say at least $15k a year.

I must be naive, because your story of 3 different flakes seems like awful bad luck... not typical! But by people's responses I can see that's not true. It makes me wonder about people who are having difficulty finding work (I have an under-employed friend) if all you need to do is show up on time.... geez!

                Good luck finding a candidate!

That's true. I made a base salary of $26k with commissions and a company vehicle.

craigslist has a bunch of questionable jobs for sure, but some legit ones as well. It's $25 to post in major cities and a cheaper way to advertise for most companies. I'm in the job hunt besides my content biz but find CL hard as hell to figure out job wise. GL.

I used to post in the services section to help people out, was a complete waste of time. some would say "why would i pay you when I go to XYZ agency and they dont charge me?" thats because they are taking 50% of your money and putting it in their pocket!

I'm looking for a sales person who can generate their own leads. I'll show you how to prospect, but you will need to reach out to the companies. They are not essentially cold calls as they are already marketing online, but its a matter of being confident in yourself to pitch the service. Most will get it and we have a lot of very happy customers who's campaigns perform amazingly.

If you are interested, shoot me an email with your info. We have an office in central PA and Long Island NY, so NJ would work good and can teach you this stuff very quickly

We're hiring for 1 position with a base and the others are commission only. This is not something that takes months to earn money, we pay a good amount % on each sale and it is recurring. Even if you are average, you can still easily make a few thousand per month.

Salesmen who often seek out a base salary are ones that are A) not confident in their abilities enough or B) just looking for some money to get by until they can find another job.

I've been hiring sales people and working with them for 10 years in the SEM industry, everyone that got paid a base performed less than commission only You can have our own opinion on base vs. no base, but I'm telling you from experience, unless it is a commodities broker or some long term close, base salaries pretty much lead to lousy salesmen.

Our base position is more in-house and requires some biz dev skills so we can approach larger deals as a team. The close rate is longer, therefore we offer compensation for that.
