Most historians and scholars of that era believe that a Jesus Christ existed. This is based not only on Christian writings of the time, but of non-Christian writings by Tacitus, Suetonius, and even Josephus (the parts that are believed not to be forged). There are even vague references to Christ and Christians by Pliny the Younger and in the Talmud.
I'm sure there will always be a healthy debate over the topic, it seems to gain legs every decade or so. My belief is that a guy named Jesus Christ existed, he preached, and he had followers. The outrageous stories of him are obviously not true, but that's beside the point. I don't really think it matters if a Jesus Christ existed or not for most of us.Comment

For someone who owns a network of history websites, you seem to have very little knowledge of Egyptian history from previous threads. Perhaps that is just a time in history that didn't interest you.
Nonetheless, your statement is false. Many of the leading historians of that time are atheists and agnostics. While there are "believers" who do study the history of Jesus and Christianity, the most respected historians of that time had no religious affiliation whatsoever. For someone who has a network of history sites and loves it so much, I'm astonished at your lack of knowledge of leading historian backgrounds.Comment
