not sure, i used to be with fdc way back in the day, the time when cogent actually cut them off, so my box was down for 1+ week. so im no stranger to FDC.
I only bought the vps cause it was the best deal, and i found no other vps offering more than 1 ip, with fdc its 5 ips.
All their packages is unlimited bandwidth.
when i did have a dedicated with them, the speeds were good, i did loads of bandwidth, in the 100's of tb's but the uptime was pretty bad, i wouldnt suggest *ANYONE* goto fdc for anything critial.
the thing that is best about linode is the control panel, able to install os', and lots of other things, better than any other service, but if you wanted to get any serious bandwidth with them you be paying out the ass.
As I said, im only using vps for development on linux, cause i run fbsd, and I like to test my shell scripts and other stuff on linux as well, cause fbsd isnt the same in all aspects.
And to answer the question earlier, about installing it locally. I do have ubuntu, plus other linux installed, but i prefer a server i can connect to, its not the same as vmware ;)
