Google needs to stop trying new things.

They launched their file locker thing. Does anyone thing they will keep it going longer then a year? Google plus, their groupon thing, froogle, just to name a few. Gmail is ok and still out there. I doubt it did anything for the bottom line but it is still open. Orkut was bigger then facebook forever in the BRIC countries. They quit supporting it and let it die.

Android is rocking. Does it do anything for their profit picture? A free software? I don;t have an Android phone but I doubt it has Google ads all over it.

The apps do... well, the free ones most of the time.

Most Google projects have failed. You cannot rely on their services for the long run.

I just read that Google makes 5 Billion on the Android platform. It is all advertising revenue. My iPhone has some ads in the free apps. Anyone think the Android ads are too much?

They're google, they can afford to try any projects they want, so who cares.

Also, GDrive will not fail or disappear after a year because it'll likely be the basis of other services making use of cloud storage. For example, their Chrome OS will most probably make use of it eventually, as the primary storage (making it a full web-OS).

They can use cloud storage for many, many things so gdrive is the least likely thing to fail.

Exactly the chrome OS is probably gonna be 100% cloud eventually.

And google APPs was very similar, I've been using it for years.

Yes. Throw enough shit at the wall, eventually some of it sticks.

I am pretty this is their tactics. Why not try out any pet project they want to? Like you said, they have the money as well as the platform to launch it on better than anybody else.

They make Chrome use it and I'll drop it in 2 secs flat.

I had to stop using Chrome on my laptop. It's become a MAJOR memory hog.
When I first installed it, it was great. As time went on, it bloated up until finally with more than 3 tabs open and buffering videos, it thinks flash is unresponsive and takes 3 minutes to close a tab.

Firefox works fine. Even IE works fine. Chrome.. wtf happened to it.

Been a defective flash update recently, could have been that.

For all of these tech companies like Microsoft, Google, Yahoo etc --- it's a scratching and clawing climb to be the a monopoly on everything.

It occurs to me that rather then wait for some company to totally dominate and then try to make an inroad. They could get ahead of the crowd a bit. If you are just fucking around anyway, why not try a pinterest now rather then wait 2 years until it is huge and then try and take market share?

I still think gmail is a failure in many ways, even though I prefer it to any email service out there simply because it interfaces with every other product one would need for collaboration with a team and the ease of use with droid appliances. They have an awesome product that acts like a bastard red-headed man-child on glue when you try to do anything in it after admiring it's capabilities. Slow as fuck and might trip on itself if you ask too much of it.

The recent interface lift they did was more like an interface botox injection right into the blood stream.

used to be really fast few years ago.

Don't even get me started (well, I'm already started now) on how many stupid steps it takes to add shit to analytics as well. I seriously spend many minutes each time trying to find how to add a new site to my profile without having to temporarily switch to "old version" first.

I keep hearing this... but any time I've tried it.. it was slow and just annoying. Maybe I need to try again...
