GFY is a Circle-Jerk due to Less Newbies - many adult web forums already gone!

GFY has devolved into basically a circle-jerk of sorts. Less new people are coming into the adult business; less newbies seeking out affiliate programs ...

Sure there's still lots of money in adult, and yes new adult sites, etc are still coming out ... but compared to mainstream, it's nothing - the fantastic heyday growth of on-line adult, where anyone could cash in, back in the late 90s and early 2000s is gone.

It's very telling that many high-profile / quality "adult" domains just pointing to parking these days instead of being developed.

Affiliate programs have stagnated ... ie. ARS (many other programs are in a similar situation) ... their affiliate forums area is like a ghost town - mostly staff and a few same people posting; seemingly not much happening.

The same old tired mostly graphical tour page formula, while it still works to some degree, is a very hard sell in an age of so much free content...

The very experienced adult promotors with a lot of financial / traffic resources are still earning great bank, even with the old formulas, but for most everyone else it's slim pickings ...

Rambling on, but point is there are relatively few newbies coming into this business - most folks these days are skipping adult and going mainstream.

Domain parking, google adsense and similar, etc are so much easier for newbies seeking to earn money on the net ... the forums geared towards such mainstream programs are growing by leaps and bounds while on-line adult is consolidating leaving less newbies to keep adult forums going - someone in another thread here on GFY the other day rattled off a whole list of adult webmaster forums that have stagnated / disappeared...

Could the same fate await GFY soon? ... some suggest that GFY may evolve into something else, such as, a limited access forum aimed mostly towards highly productive adult folks - that's not as crazy as it seems either when one considers that GFY has numerous "secret" forums already, which are reportedly getting more usage lately by many productive folks over the open forums.

Your post started at A and ended up at 8. I.E. Is it to due with the fall of adult as you see it, the fewer number of newbies, the decline of GFY, the decline of many useless resource board, or the overal decline of the industry.

Its funny Im a newbie on here and I did not even know about GFY until I started link exchanges with other adult webmasters and one of them pointed me to gfy, Well since I have been on here the posts have been both entertaining and also helpfull, I have also made some money on here not a lot but some and have also spoken to some good webmasters that have been helpfull with advice or pointers. I have tried a few other forums but you just dont seem to get the same kind of "community" as to what you get on here. I still have a hell of a lot to learn but that will hopefully come with time and it would be sad to see this board dissapear into the depths of oblivian

                              Mainstream Vs. Adult.

Adult: highly competitive, potential legal issues, smaller market, and up against many people giving away what your trying to sell. However for the right person, it is an easy fit with hard work and the right product. Make it here and most online activities are easy.

Mainstream: No real taboos, easy to host and show off, huge number of potential products and items to sell, unlimited potential for market growth. Biggest issue is the piss poor commissions many places offer so you get less bang for your traffic.

Why are people making a switch/crossover: Some may be leaving while many are just venturing out to grab more dollars. They are taking their adult know how and finances and grabbing a market share of non adult. From day one just about everyone with any brains has always said to take your adult income and re-invest it offline or in non adult projects. Time has not changed and if you are thinking you need or should be investing 100% back into adult your are on a risky financial path. Those investing elsewhere do not see adult as a sinking ship, they just know better than to invest it all in one area.

I see things being rather simple... If you have a good online service like for an example hustler who provides a proper website as to promote then it all comes down to the question: "how do I get quality web traffic" because it is only a numbers game... buying non cj traffic not coming from tgp/mgps. The problem is that 90-95% of bought adult traffic is very low quality traffic... no wonder why adult webmasters are having a hard time... then time passes and more and more adult webmasters fail then move on to another associate program make a little money then fail again...

I think it comes down to just the basics like SEO and buying non tgp/mgp traffic like dating traffic...

                                        Later,
                                        sig too big

mainstream is where all the "real" money is. Just look at that 17 year old girl who made a fucken website giving away myspace backgrounds for free. She makes 70 grand per MONTH off her traffic she gets to her site.. from paid ads.

HEY im a NEWBIE. does this mean that i will have to be trickier, smarter, luckier, and more informed than the newbies of old? well, i leave it in part, to places like this to make valuable connections and to learn from the people who are actually doing it. so for my part id hate to see gfy go away in any way. i actaully learn alot here and would like to say thanks to all the people who answered and questions i had/have/posted. because you guys helped!
i have been on a few other boards and in general, this one is in my opinion the best out there. hidden areas or not. im new. what do i know? but i could end up in the next gen of buisness partners for some of you. and slanging adult has a mystique that slanging avon just doesnt have. so to insure your survival, doesnt it behoove you to support me in my endeavors? i do not want to pirate. i do not want to offer shoddy sites. i do not want to be a leech. i want to gain income by being a quality site that gives surfers a reason to swing by. not that i know what that is yet. because i am still new even after typing a long post. and i am willing to relocate! of course theres the chance that i am just a flash in the pan guy and will vanish in a month or two back to my nonexistant job at costco. i get that. but if i keep getting good info here and via my brand spankin new icq number down there, i hope to actually be able to become a contributing member of adult society.

i love the fact that everyone thinks that because there are forums that are password protected that there are people chatting up a storm in them

those forums have been around for YEARS, and the whole time those forums didn't have passwords the only thing they were used for was idiots contest whores jacking up their post count

those forums are not even being used now, i had someone that found the password show them to me, there is NOTHING going on in there....NOTHING whatsoever

Do you have any mainstream sites ?

Of course I do. I just wish I would have kept the ones I started back in the 90's going. Regardless I have started running some last year mostly on a seasonal test basis and they did kick serious ass. Now I am developing out several mainstream full time sites that I picked up about 22 domains for.

I personally do not think I will stumble onto one of those very select few instant hit mainstream sites that make someone six figured by itself. Those are just like the few rare sites you see in adult. However most of my sites from last year all did a reasonable sum of cash. One did cause me a big learning experience though when adwords turned themselves back on and ran for a few more months for a seasonal ad.

I may be rambling some. However I will not give up in adult I do well in adult. However I also branch out into mainstream and have always since day one reinvested offline too.
