          America pretty much blows..

Why should I give money to idiots who then give it to the lowest common denominators of our society?

I just saw Sicko and I kinda fucked me up. My parents are killing themselves to pay for their current health care along with trying preparing for their future health care needs. They will probably pass away at an early age from working so hard all their lives and stressing so much. If we lived elsewhere, they could be using those funds toward seeing the world and doing all the shit they want to do before they die, not to mention living longer healthier lives.

One thing I never understood about Sicko... they promote it as "Hilarious.... The Funniest Movie Of All Time!"

There really wasn't anything funny... and i'm not being cynical.... it wasn't funny

People where dying... a girl broke down cuz the insurance company wouldn't pay out a claim to somone who deserved it.

people could buy medicine for a fraction of the price in the US... it was scary

It was like letting go someone who was on life support for 20 years that you just couldn't afford to keep resuscitated. I now am jealous of the French, British, Canadians, and damn, pretty much every other country besides this one.

                Defend at will.

Alot of the statistics in SICKO are distorted.

Few who have had socialized medicine in those countries (and others) would prefer it to the quality care you can get in the US.

Plus, we already have socialized medicine in the US. If you are an illegal alien or a welfare mother, you are entitled to free health care courtesy of the US taxpayers. It's just that average working folk have a hard time affording health care, and that is very unfair.

The US health care system is broken --so fix it. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

Your parents are killing themselves paying for the healthcare of illegal aliens and welfare queens --with no reciprocal benefit. It's theft by taxes. That's their real problem.

You can't seem to admit there is a problem, I would never trade the doctors we have in here for the ones in America, you are a full on nationalist flagface.

If you have a car crash and your insurance refuses to pay the bills, you can't afford it and you die, remind me to laugh.

Can you read and comprehend the King's English? As I said, the system is broken.

I am no fan of insurance companies. First, you have whatever tragedy you have, then you have to fight your insurance company. That is a basic betrayal. So, tighten up the laws on insurance companies. And, make whatever other changes are necessary. Drop the illegal aliens, welfare queens, and the other deadbeats. If individuals don't value their own healthcare, why should the taxpayers pick up the tab at the expense of their own families?

Government controlled health care is jumping from the frying pan into the fire. No thanks.

Glad you are happy with the UK system, I am happy here.

Yes I can read thanks, you only admitted it was broken to a certain extent, SiCKO isn't distorted. What you said is never going to happen and is unrealistic so you have to change the whole system.

We are 38th in life expectancy we have to wake and stop jerking off thinking we are the greatest. My dad had a major heart attack in the uk and he got outstanding care and it cost him nothing. Im watching sicko now and knowing how they are treating my father. They had to give him a 30yr old drug that truly fucked him up because thats what the health insurance says you have to use before you can use newer better chemo drugs. Its so fucked up.

Uh, yes they do. They have everything to do with it. Fraud is a big reason why taxes and insurance premiums are so high.

Illegal aliens only get $6 an hour pay. Really? Hahahahaha, think again. They actually get closer to $24. How? They get an extra $18 in social benefits. Do you think the employer pays it? Nada.

                                Guess who pays for it?

You are wrong. Michael Moore twisted his statistics to get the results he wanted. You can't argue with that --it is a FACT. CNN debunked Moore's statistics, and so did others.

I must be the only person who's happy with my healthcare in the US, lol. I broke my foot 2 months ago and just had surgery for a different reason and both went like a dream as far as I'm concerned. Two different hospitals with one being rural and the other in one of the burbs with a huge income average - got great care both places.

I have a high deductible since I rarely have deductible related costs (I pay a set amount for visits and prescrips that don't apply to the deducible) so I had to pay a lot out of pocket, but that was my decision - it's certainly not the fault of the health system.

American needs to make it mandatory to have SOME sort of health insurance - basic catastrophic policies. In most states you're required to insure your car, but not your body. Crazy. Too many people are making enough to buy a big screen TV, a fancy car and take trips to play but don't have a basic policy.

As far as kids, most states have VERY low cost insurance that covers kids. In GA I think you can make up to $42K a year with 2 kids and still qualify.

Did MM touch on the annual incomes of people who aren't insured and how many who could take advantage of their state's inexpensive offerings for their kids, but don't?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The US has shown me so far that anything they can do, the private sector can do better. If they are going to Universal Care, I want to be able to opt out of it. In the interviews I've seen MM in, he's said he thinks insurance companies need to go away completely - I'm VERY against that. I think if I can afford to pay for my own insurance, I should be given that ability.

you just believe urban legends .... don't you ever search ... for yourself or you simply just believe what ever your extreme right wing folks tell ya ... ????

CNN: "Moore asserts that the American health care system spends $7,000 per person on health. Cuba spends $25 dollars per person. Not true. But not too far off. The United States spends $6,096 per person, versus $229 per person in Cuba."

                                                      THE TRUTH:

                                                      * According to our own government ? the Department of Health and Human Services' National Health Expenditures Projections ? the United States will spend $7,092 per capita on health in 2006 and $7,498 in 2007. (Department of Health and Human Services Center for Medicare and Medicaid Expenditures, National Health Expenditures Projections 2006-2016. http://www.cms.hhs.gov/NationalHealt...s/proj2006.pdf)
                                                      * As for Cuba ? Dr. Gupta and CNN need to watch 'SiCKO' first before commenting on it. 'SiCKO' says Cuba spends $251 per person on health care, not $25, as Gupta reports. And the BBC reports that Cuba's per capita health expenditure is? $251! (Keeping Cuba Healthy, BBC, Aug. 1 2006. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programme...ht/5232628.stm ) This is confirmed by the United Nations Human Development Report, 2006. Yup, Cuba spends $251 per person on health care. (http://hdr.undp.org/hdr2006/statisti...cators/52.html). As Gupta points out, the World Health Organization does calculate Cuba's per capita health expenditure at $229 per person. We chose to use the UN numbers, a minor difference - and $229 is a lot closer to $251 than $25.

CNN: In fact, Americans live just a little bit longer than Cubans on average.

                                                      THE TRUTH:

                                                      * Just the opposite. The 2006 United Nations Human Development Report's human development index states the life expectancy in the United States is 77.5 years. It is 77.6 years in Cuba. (Human Development Report 2006, United Nations Development Programme, 2006 at 283. http://hdr.undp.org/hdr2006/pdfs/rep...6-complete.pdf)

Even a highly bureaucratic and wasteful system administered by the Government is better than a system where there are so many middle men trying to make profit off of insurance, care, medicine and everything in between. The invisible hand of capitalism in health care keeps people sick, on many different medications and never "cured".

We also watched sicko last night, and I didnt know it was quite this extreme (where the insurance companies can just deny most requests for health care). We live in spain, and the Social health care hospitals are also not the best, so on top of me paying the social security and health care bit, I also got an additional Private international health care insurance. Which is great. In may this year i had to get some basic surgery, and didnt pay a thing. However just to show how messed up things are in USA, when we were in Vegas for internext in 2006, i had some problems with my foot. Got of the plane and 2 days later my foot was twice the size, and it looked like i had trombosis. Never had it before, so it was freaking me out. So we go to a hospital in Vegas, somewhere near MGM. I pull out my insurance card which has global coverage, and ofcourse, (dont take this to hard USA folks) narrow minded that the USA society is, they never heard of my insurance policy (as it wasnt Blue Cross or a famous USA insurance), and they only way i was getting looked at, was if i pulled out mr good ole VISA, and charged me $500 BEFORE getting PASSED the waiting room. Yes sir. I was like wtf is this bullshit, but i had no choice. Then after they looked at me, i asked for an invoice for what i just paid, so i could atleast claim it back once i got back home. Well as im sure ALOT of my fellow europeans know, the USA doesnt have such a thing like an "invoice", atleast not with the requirements for it to be valid here in Europe. So i received the closest i could get after an hour argueing at the front desks, and continued my trip.

I mean so much for global insurance coverage, when you go to USA and the only insurance coverage they recognize is fucking VISA or AMEX. For those that have seen sicko, well when those canadian relatives were closing insurance JUST to go to the USA, i can now understand that. This was just a stupid $550 payment, and nothing to serious, but what if something serious would have happened to me. Even i, as a NON usa citizen with private insurance with global coverage, would have gotten a serious anal treatment.

                                                                      </rant>

Like UK's killer health care system, or that france comes and do your laundry and all that. Well its not always THAT much of a pink world either :P
