Yeah you could, but BSD works best when you use the built-in ports system. And unfortunately the ports are not always up to date with versions available on linux. Also if I recall I had a situation where i needed a package that wasn't available on my version of BSD i was running.

I didn't want to make the switch but had to do what was best for production.
