Most religions, Christianity in particular, are mired in blood, revenge, sacrifice, vengeance, and all kinds of cruel shit. Christians crave blood and death. The "god" of the bible is one cruel mother fucker. He demands human sacrifice, commands people to kill innocent men, women, and children. Even condones rape and slavery. Wipes out whole cities, and even killed everyone on Earth (besides Noah and fam). This lovey dovey god preached in churches now is a extremely warped version of what the bible says.
Jesus himself said he did not come to bring peace but a sword. He also stated that you have to hate you mother and father in order to follow him. Most Christians CRAVE for the day when all the heathens are swept into eternal hellfire. How fucking sick is that shit? Any opportunity they see in the end of the world coming, they celebrate.Comment

If there wasn't a religion do you think the sheep would suddenly become independent free thinkers? Hell no, they'd find some other organization to cling to and some new idol to worship, because a sheep is a sheep...they need someone to lead them.
If you look at history you can see numerous examples of when there's no religion something will fill the void, whether it's a political party, nationalism, or some other -ism that allows people to blindly hate others.
Man made religion in his own violent image...there's nothing divine about the words printed between the pages of these holy books...even when the message in these books are somewhat innocent and peaceful, you'll have someone twist the meaning for their own benefit.See Sig...oh wait.Comment

Funny..
Everything in nature works as it should. It's for lack of better word, perfect.
However, everything man (or mankind) touches... it ruins.
Humans are a plague on this planet. Organized religion is a cleverly vailed sword wielding power over the masses.

Jephthah burns his daughter as sacrifice to god : Judges 11:29-40
fun baby killing: Ezekiel 9:5-7, Isaiah 13:15-18
More loving god stuff: Judges 21:10-24, Numbers 31:7-18, Deuteronomy 20:10-14, Deuteronomy 21:10-14, Zechariah 14:1-2 (I guess the "women ravished" means they will be hungry, right?)
Genesis 6:7 god repents and decides to kill everything.
Mathew 10:34 Jesus says "Think not that I come to send peace on Earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."
Luke 14:26 Jesus says "If any man come to me, and hate not his father and mother, and wife, and children, and bretheren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."Comment

This is true. The nature of man is what causes most atrocities. People seek religions that fit their needs and it appears that most have needs of blood sacrifice. Even if all religions were peaceful, there would be blood loving people anyhow. As it stands, they just have a place to go on Sundays (or Saturdays depending) and get their bloodlust fix. People will always hate each other I fear. Religions only give them a reason to justify it.People blame religion for the ills in the world, I blame human nature, because that's truly the root of all evil.

I hope so. It's time for the Earth to move on to another dominating life form. Ok so when Jesus quoted the old testament (as he did many many times throughout the gospels) he quoted it because he didn't believe it was true?
When Jesus said that he hadn't come to abolish the law but to fulfill it, he wasn't referring to old testament law?
Hmmmm maybe he thought he came to fulfill Hammurabi's code and not the law of Moses?
And when Paul said that all scripture is "inspired by God" (literal translation is "god breathed")....and the scripture that he was referring to was the old testament, Jewish scriptures, because the new testament didn't exist yet, he was writing it at the time (and most likely himself didn't believe what he was writing to be scripture)
When he made that statement about the old testament he was lying?
You say I can't know for a fact what they accepted as fact...but if i can't accept what they themselves said about the old testament, how can i believe anything else they say?sig too bigComment

We're not talking about "the bible".....the discussion you and I are having is the old testament and whether or not Jesus and the writers of the new testament believed it.Originally posted by baddogIn fact, the first Bible wasn't printed until 1500 years after he died
According to tradition, the contents the Tanakh were codified by the Men of the Great Assembly ("Anshei K'nesset HaGedolah"), a task completed in 450 BCE, and have remained unchanged since that date
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanakh
Wouldn't it be ironic if the old testament weren't true and the new testament were? Considering that Jesus supposedly fulfilled all of those prophesies about the Messiah.
If the old testament prophecies weren't true, then he must not have been a Messiah, because the idea of a Messiah was a farce.
As a matter of fact, the gospel writers went to great pains to let us know that every time Jesus did a certain thing, he was fulfilling an old testament prophecy, and then the new testament writers quoted the old testament prophecy that he supposedly fulfilled.
You can't have it both ways. The new testament cannot be true if the old testament is not true.
Period.Last edited by Snake Doctor; 11-10-2007, 08:22 PM.sig too bigComment

Okay, Lenny, let's stop and think about it for a bit.
Are you familiar with what a parable is? They are stories with a message, like Aesop's Fables. They are not "facts." Jesus and the other OT writers told them.
Take Jonah and the whale. No one really believes that some guy lived in the belly of a fish for three days and survived. But guess what? Jesus was in a tomb for three days. Coincidence? I think not.
Let's go back to the Garden of Eden and Creation. Darwin was not born until the 1800's, and came up with the theory of evolution until the mid-1800's. So how the fuck was some guy that was trying to describe how the earth was created 2,000 years (or more) beforehand supposed to describe it?
If one were to suggest that the earth orbited around the sun, instead of the other way around he would be dragged outside to the nearest rock quarry and stoned to death.
Think of the OT as Aesop's Fables for the religious. It might make it easier on you.Comment

You can't simply explain away the entire old testament by calling it a "fable" or "parable"Originally posted by baddogOkay, Lenny, let's stop and think about it for a bit.
Are you familiar with what a parable is? They are stories with a message, like Aesop's Fables. They are not "facts." Jesus and the other OT writers told them.
My friend, you would be amazed at how many people actually believe that is exactly what happened, along with Moses parting the red sea, and dozens of other stories.Originally posted by baddogTake Jonah and the whale. No one really believes that some guy lived in the belly of a fish for three days and survived. But guess what? Jesus was in a tomb for three days. Coincidence? I think not.
So is the story of Jesus walking on water or turning water into wine or feeding 5000 people with a couple fish and a loaf of bread....or rising from the dead and dying for our sins....is that part real or is it just like Aesop's fables?
I think that people of faith have always been persecuted for their beliefs, and I really don't think saying something as ridiculous sounding as the earth orbits around the sun would deter them if they really thought the message was from god.Originally posted by baddogLet's go back to the Garden of Eden and Creation. If one were to suggest that the earth orbited around the sun, instead of the other way around he would be dragged outside to the nearest rock quarry and stoned to death.
The earth revolving around the sun isn't any more ridiculous than alot of the other stuff that's in the bible. So if they were really hearing from God, why did they get it wrong?
I mean Moses claimed to have talked to a burning bush, and he supposedly parted the red sea...so it's ok to make claims like that but to say that the earth revolves around the sun is going too far? C'mon.
I think of the old testament as a crock of shit, the same way I think of the new testament.Originally posted by baddogThink of the OT as Aesop's Fables for the religious. It might make it easier on you.
I don't get it, why is it ok to believe that jesus was born to a virgin mother, never committed a sin or made a mistake, walked on water, healed the sick, raised the dead, died for our sins, rose from the dead, and is now seated at god's right hand....all of that is true and to be taken literally....but the stuff in the old testament that we find offensive or that seems to contradict itself isn't really true, that part is just a "fable"
Kind of convenient don't ya think?sig too bigComment

Thats part of the problem here. We all think we OWN this because "GOD" gave it to us. If you're a landlord and you let your building go to shit. It's time for a new landlord. If we wipe ourselves off the face of the earth. The earth will be just fine and things will continue as usual. ... next .....Originally posted by baddogAnd God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Anyone can take anything and find somewhere that it applies..
If you study the fall of the Roman empire, then read the book of revelation, you'll see how the two coincide...
The fall is what the book is about.. not about the end of the world...
And as for the 666... mark of the beast...
The Hebrew language used letters to represent numbers. Taking Nero's Greek name (Neron Kaiser), writing it in equivalent Hebrew letters and adding up the value of the letters yields 666.
Though people still like to argue the point...Comment

Remember around 80% of people who claim they are Christians actually aren't, the only real Christians are the people that practise the religion (go to church).
But then onto the bible I'd say around 70% haven't actually read the bible. Because, you know, if they did they would see that it clearly says that Jesus is not God. It's kinda funny how people can be led to believe something and put their whole life into something that is not even true.Comment
