I assumed it was a hoax, but if you look at the bottom of the wiki article, you will find a few links to legit news sites mentioning it. According to wiki, it's the "western use" that is the hoax. Very strange overall.

Nice I used to live over in SA and thankfully never tried this. There used to be a fermented milk beer that the africans used to drink it was pretty lumpy and it would stink like hell
