    After a long night...pug puppies are here!

    I finally dozed off at about 5 am this morning, after Jello finally decided to rest and passsed out. A few hours later we were up and she was ready to get going. At 8:15 she started and 43 minutes later we had 3 healthy newborn pug puppies. We thought she was done, but nope...about an hour later she pushed out another one.

    The entire process was messy. Not something to get involved with if you can't deal with a little blood.

    Mom and babies are all alive and well. One of them has what might be an issue with his nose/cleft palette...but that is yet to be determined. We'll be heading to the vet in a few hours.

    And now some pics...














    This is the little guy with the palette problem.

                  Yep, they all come out pretty dark like that...but will eventually turn out to be the same fawn color as mom and dad.

                                                                                                          As long as the one with the cleft palate is getting milk into him, he should do okay. I had to look after a litter of kittens and one had a cleft palate and when it drank, the milk would bubble out of it's nose. It couldn't breathe well as a result when it fed, and never got enough food, and eventually wasted away. It was so sad.

                                                                                                          I hope all of your puppies thrive! What cuties!

                                                                                                                      Google and the help of a great local breeder, who would have been here at 4am if we'd have let her.

                                                                                                                      Just got back from the vet and the cleft lip isn't a major concern at this point. His palette his completely formed and his sinus cavities are too. He's able to latch on to the nipple. Just looks like his lip didn't form and some stitching somewhere along the line and he'll just be an even sillier looking silly dog.

The first 3 came quickly. And the 4th, when he did shot right out before I had time to get on the latex gloves. I was surprised. After 24 hours, she's now starting to be a good mom. She wasn't too interested in them until we went to the vet and she saw how interested everyone else was.
